That's the draw for the Volt, unlike other hybrids that tend to fall back on the engine to help out during normal driving, the Volt will never start the engine whilst the batteries are still charged – even if you floor the accelerator. Once depleted the engine kicks in and you're stuck with a medium to high efficiency gas car.
Most buyers will be keen to charge up and many many journeys will be completed with no tailpipe emissions.
