The rumors about the Apple Tablet are getting crazy and special guest Cali Lewis nails it when she calls it a unicorn. We also get the first look at the Google OS, and nobody is very excited about Microsoft Office 2010. Except the one person who never uses it: me. And we get some of the inside scoop behind the FAA outage.

Hey Buzz Crew,
Chris the former SNOWMAN HUNTER (and secret robot resister) here to say I too was creeped out by Aida, the backseat driving robot on Episode 1108. A passenger in my car that scolds and nags and guilt-trips? What a clanking piece of Hell in the car pool lane.
But then it hit me. Give it a thin British accent, paint it gold and call it C-3P0… and I’d buy one tomorrow.
Love the show… until we’re all turned into a warm slurry by the coming robot hoards.
Chris

Hi Buzz Crew,

Watching episode 1109.

Tom the circle on you iPhone next to the bars as far as im aware means you have cell data.
the bars are the signal strength from the mast. the circle is cell data, and E is Edge, 3G is 3G.

Over here in the UK on O2 we have pretty good 3G coverage and every time iv used my iPhone
to load a page – it loads, what ever i’m on (cell,edge,3g), yes on cell it takes a bit longer – but it loads,
sounds like AT&T should give up and go do something else

Love the show guys.

Thanks
Carl

Hey Buzz Crew,

Xerox has setup http://www.letssaythanks.com/Home1280.html to have people sign up to send free printed postcards to troops overseas. You select one of the designs, add a message, your name and hometown and they send it for free to a random troop.

I thought this was a neat idea from Xerox and I’m hoping that you’ll put the link in your shownotes.

Thanks and “Love the show.”
Hutch from Grand Rapids

I would have to disagree with you Cooley, I spend quite a bit of time using Office and I have definitely more efficient using the Ribbon as Office 2007 introduced.

I used to use office a lot too. My experience with the ribbon was bad enough to push me to open office. Any claims of it being more efficient is BS, it takes just as long to point and click. The problem with the ribbon is that some how they made it even less intuitive with the placement of functions than the pull down menus.

The obvious the point of the ribbon is to be pretty like Mac. Functionality has nothing to do with it.

I actually prefer the Flip as a standalone device. It's easy enough to use so that it can be passed around to friends without me having to worry about someone screwing up my phone. Some of the best footage on my Flip wasn't even taken by me.

Cooley, you are 100% right in regards to the VISA's individuals are issued for employment. The positions these employees take are contract employee positions. As a contract employee, you agree to the stipulations, pre-employment. It is certainly not the responsibility of a government or a business to provide jobs or income for individuals, especially those who are immigrating from other nations.

Does being a contract employee suck? Yes, especially if you really like the job or need the money. But the position is what it is described as.

Have we forgotten that we need to play by the rules. I am sorry about any worker whose Visa expires and has to leave, but that is what they signed up for. Americans do the same thing working in foreign countries yet we don't boo hoo about it. I have lived outside the US for many years, my wife is not an American by birth and we went followed the steps for her to become a citizen.

But we are living in the country that we must take care of everyone and if you break the rules, its ok because its someone else's fault.

Get real

Brian, you nailed it. NOT OUR PROBLEM. Out of work AMERICAN CITIZENS and LEGAL IMMIGRANTS are our problem. If people want to come on short term visas for short term employment, GREAT. READ THE Frakkin' VISA before SIGNING IT. Understand that WHEN THE SEASONAL WORK GOES AWAY, YOU GO AWAY. IF IT COMES BACK, MAYBE YOU CAN TOO. I really get tired of weepers and moaners who think that the well being of every poor person in the world is OUR RESPONSIBILITY. 25 MILLION Americans depend on food pantries or assistance just to eat. More hungry mouths are not the solution.

I just listened to episode 1110 and was amazed about the insensitivity that Natali and Cali displayed. I am a unemployed American IT specialist that has experienced unemployment directly caused by those visas. I have done day contract work at companies that were filled with underpaid Visa contractors. For Cali to outsource her work to other countries while Americans with the same skill set is despicable. And Natali has simply lost perspective to the majority of the IT community.
