A Halo release that will be playable on the PS3

The success of the Halo franchise has been incredible. So much so, it was only a matter of time before we'd see a movie. Microsoft plans on releasing a seven-part series spanning from its origins to the game's third installment, titled Halo Legends.

The announcement was made at the 2009 Comic-Con in San Diego. The series will be available for download via Xbox Live this fall. According to Blu-ray.com we can expect to see this on Blu-ray sometime in 2010, so there will finally be a disc labeled Halo that will play on the PS3 for all the Halo fans.

However, since the Xbox 360 doesn't support Blu-ray, it makes you wonder if Blu-ray is in the 360's future? Or maybe the next-gen Xbox? Regardless, you kind of have to to hand it to Microsoft for wanting the fans of the Halo franchise to truly experience this mini series on the best media that's out today.

jaja, this is very funny.
I wouldnt play this halo even when its a movie on a ps3.
I really have played halo since it firs came out and i dont see whats the buzz about, maybe i just dont get it...(played it on my friends 360 thats not in hell with millions of other RROD)
I dont see where is it that halo excels to the point where it has been or was the driven point in the xbox enviroment. It plays like any other ftp, the creatures are no better than cod2, the maps are shady, no big thing going on there, the guns are imaginary........ the story is a leap from another leap, and so on.......
Basically, i dont want/need halo on ps3, no graphical strengh, an nothing more in the table........

I feel the same way. I never saw what the big deal was over Halo, maybe it's the online play. But the PS3 will have something the 360 won't have, the massive MAG. I am currently playing the Beta for it, and needless to say this will be literally massive in every sense of the word. Something only possible with the PS3. I've played games on the 360(my brother has one), but I wasn't all that impressed with anything about it.
by xmaster_dosx October 1, 2009 12:30 PM PDT
@darkpoet
where did you get the beta for MAG???????
by superjay77 October 1, 2009 12:37 PM PDT
Lets see how well Mag does when it releases.

@superjay77
I just hope 255 buy the game, cause i will lol.
by lil-yankee October 1, 2009 1:56 PM PDT
how did you get in the beta darkpoet25?
im dying to play that game and I was bummed to find out they were keeping it for next year.......
Share codes please!!!

couldn't agree more yankee but you forgot one thing.... The lack of recoil or ridiculous recoil on the weapons in halo. It's popular b/c it's EASY for people who haven't played traditional FPS' with actual true life recoil. basically it's n00b'd down lol
by Absolution2009 October 1, 2009 4:50 PM PDT
I feel the same way too. Halo isn't that great to me either, there are better. Gears of War 2 though I can say is really fun and Fable, but other than that I never found any Xbox 360 games worth purchasing that I couldn't purchase on the PS3 (COD4 for example and Assassins' Creed).
by TheHBK23 October 2, 2009 11:46 AM PDT
Stop bashing something you dont get. You are not a huge fan, ok we get it. But you wont play this movie on your PS3 because you dont care for the story and thats ok. You dont need to try and make yourself feel better about owning a PS3 by bashing another game.
"Those who bash another system do it because....
a) they cant afford to buy it but would if they could
b) are not sure their system can stand on its own
c) are along with everyone else and bash it because it sucks and the sales numbers show it. (XBOX 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, DS dont fall into this one)
by lil-yankee October 2, 2009 4:13 PM PDT
@TheHBK23
You need to take your doctrine somewhere else.
We here are ps3 owners that were drawn to this article because it implied "that could be played on a ps3".
We are not showing hatred, its ok not to like game; and its also ok to comment about it.
So, pack your bags, and hit the rode jack this ain't pay per view...

Sorry...i've played the MAG Beta for months...and while it is a good game....it is no HALO.

The multiplayer sessions with so many players is still iffy in gameplay IMO.....its hard enough to get 16-32 people to play well together......getting teams of 8 to coordinate with a ton of other teams of 8 not to mention squad commanders.......just not sure consoles are meant for intricacies of BATTLEFIELD: 2142. Also....i cannot state how horrible the MAG server performance has been during the beta period with them off more than on. But that may be more a result of the always 50/50 performance of the PSN. (Note: I have FIOS 50MB....it is not a case of problems with my connection).

I loved Zipper's SOCOM games......but until they make headsets and voice communication mandatory (or something to get people to communicate more) for games like MAG (like was with SOCOM).....I'm still questioning how good the multiplayer experience can be.

MS would 1st have to cut a deal with Sony before they can use blue ray on their Crapbox. Halo sucks anyway.

1st... I'm not a Halo fan. 2nd... I'm not a platform fanboy (I own both a PS3 & an Xbox360.

Did you really just use the term 'Crapbox'?!?! hahahahahaha... lame!
by darkpoet25 October 1, 2009 12:09 PM PDT
Sony are only one of the companies that make up the BLU Ray Disc Association. So M$ would have to go through the BDA for Blu Ray playback on their machines.
by Jawknee1 October 1, 2009 2:23 PM PDT
and who holds most of the controlling shares of the BDA? Sony.

@Ihgreb, do i really need to answer your question? or do you not trust your own eyes?
by whoadude1 October 2, 2009 7:39 AM PDT
crapbox? VERY original ya fricking loser fanbiatch.

so tell me how is that PS3.....Play B3hind?????? ya like that $300 + blu ray player that sux online and everywhere else?

and.....lil yankee....funny name....imaginary you say? so whats MGS4? real? thats a leap at best.

anyway.....a Halo movie in bluray? all of ya ps fanbiatches better run out and buy it....cuz thats all that machine is good for.
by superjay77 October 1, 2009 10:11 AM PDT
Who cares if Halo Legends blu-ray doesn't work on a 360. People act like they don't make stand alone blu-ray players or something. Sounds to me like another article based on hating on the 360 when there is no bases for hate. What else is new.

by Shinobi2099 October 1, 2009 4:14 PM PDT
@superjay77

Lol superjay we both know M$ funds this website, if not they should. And the 360 should be hated. It's crashing while the PS3 is beginning to soar... why? Bc the PS3 did not rush. like M$ did and it made something worthy of being called a next gen.
by d--keller October 1, 2009 5:00 PM PDT
lol... "bases for hate" while you imply that people are stupid... clasic.
by superjay77 October 2, 2009 6:43 AM PDT
@Shinobi I would like to see some #'s before I agree with you that SONY is soaring. Last time I checked they were in 3rd place in the US. When that changes great.

@ d-keller I think you love me because you seem to be following me around. Anyway I never implied that people were dumb. Some are just narrow minded like you buddy. This article only had one purpose and that was to chastise the 360 for not having blu-ray because you could not play a blu-ray version of a halo cartoon on the system. It's a non issue. It's not even a game it's a cartoon. Who cares if a 360 can play a halo cartoon.
by myles taylor October 1, 2009 10:41 AM PDT
They really set it up for a movie in ODST. They gave the series other characters besides Master Chief as he was to "faceless" for a movie. Take the cast from Firefly and make a Halo movie and you'll have a "nerdgasm" as one of my friends said.

I'd rather see Nathan Fillion as Nathan Drake in Uncharted: the movie. Bruce Campbell could play the older guy. That's my nerdgasm right there.

holy craptasic batman!!! how bad can the acting be??? and why have it done in anime style??? should have kept the look and feel of the game and translate it to screen instead of reinventing it as an anime

It is a movie, why wouldn't it be on Blu-Ray.

And I don't think MS would cut a deal with their biggest competitor to but a Blue-Ray drive in their console.

Looks pretty good. Nice knife lol. All the fools who say Halo is just another FPS, have you actually played the game. Did you ever use any of the features like screenshots, video clips and theatre playback, or Bunige.net for your stats and video render and screenshot downloads? Seriously, what other FPS has as many features and support. When will other game developers step it up. And I have a PS3 as well. the games are horrible. It might as well have the RROD, it is going on ebay soon.

Shinobi!!!!!!!! I missed you buddy. I won't be able to get Socom right now but I want to get it before Christmas. I'm to busy playing ODST and Motorstorm 2. Then later I'm getting Lost planet 2 also. I'm definitely think about getting socom later though buddy.

This is so a bait-to-read article.
You made the title sound like it was a Halo game that's playable (ie a GAME) on a PS3

but its actually a movie on blu-ray. How retarded

I hate to brake it down to you, but the tittle is right and you are the retarded. Although is going to be in the form of a movie, it will still be "playable" on the ps3 and it's going to behalo so...... Cnet 1 and you 0.
by xophaser October 1, 2009 11:53 PM PDT
not an issues. This is a movie not a game. All new animations and animes are release on blu-ray for top quality. Even Dead Space the animation was on blu-ray and it looked good. The small royality would be paid to the blu-ray format like it would to be on a dvd format. Doesn't Sony's Vaio come with Window OS?

looks cheesey.i watched a trailer or something of live people doing a halo battle and it looked good where did that go. Now a cheap cartoon is coming out why use my blueray player and who cares about a movie that doesnt look better then the game. why would i waste $30 on a stupid cartoon .Cheeeeeeeeeeeeezey

There are not going to be a next generation Xbox 360 or PS3. They both said this a year ago because cost billions of dollars to build new systems. They are going to keep what they have. PS3 already lost billions on the PS3 and they are not going to be the same boat they were in before.

Lame. . . Anime on Halo. . . just lame. What would have been more impressive would have been an American-styled cartoon series, because anime is NOT the only cartoon style in existence.

I just love when trolls have to look for some pathetic reason to post a comment about how much the XBOX and HALO series both suck. Seriously, do you fools ever read your own dribble, too often it begins or ends with somthing along the lines of 'you know, I really don't care' or 'I don't get the hype' et cetra. If that's truly how you feel - in that you don't care - then keep your negativity to yourself and go play little big planet, kill zone, or god of war 3 for the 100th time while waiting for the next 'HALO killer' to come out. MAG ... whatever ...

But Halo isn't that great. It's a shooter for n00bs... Its way overrated. And while we wait for our new "Halo Killer" Have fun with Halo 37: The life and times of Master Chief.
by lil-yankee October 3, 2009 12:11 PM PDT
Yeah dude, halo is famous because it's known as the face of the xbox "right after RROD" thus the reason why people tend to buy it more, not because it's any exentric and innovative. And yes, some of us like to come here and remind you people how much the xbox sucks, but don't we have a point?
by Shinespark October 2, 2009 2:48 PM PDT
What a shameless baiting article. I was intrigued at the title, since I enjoyed Halo but I am done with the 360 after going through two defective units. I thought that a decent PS3 Halo release may bolster the case for me to get a different next-gen console, as I now currently own none. But the idea that because a movie based on Bungie IP is playable on a PS3 speaks of some sort of arrangement is really absurd, bordering on conspiracy theory ludicrous.

Well, you win. I took the bait and posted an irked-sounding comment. Congratulations. Now I can go on reading about tech news, not a poorly acted movie that looks like it was drawn over a decade ago.

Hello Fellow Gamers. Wow.... Some people..... Cnet, You'll do anything to start a fuss. This post is nothing more than a X360 vs PS3 debate yet again. The bottom line is, People are going to get what they want. I like X360 , so I have one. Others like PS3 so they have one. There are some that have Both ( X360, PS3) or all three ( Wii, X360, PS3 ). So what? Just enjoy your games on your system of choice.

Now the HALO anime movie on Blu-Ray. It's a ..CARTOON.. people. So what. The X360 can play Blu-Ray movies. Not directly , but it can play them. Those of you who are Fans will definitely watch the movie. Others out of curiosity will also watch it too. Some will download it for free off the internet (just like the Blu-ray movies are done).

M$ and BUNGIE have made HALO an icon in the gaming industry. HALO sales since day one have broken all kinds of records that SONY can't even match. Name one game that's on the PS3 that has outsold HALO3? Also name one game on the PS3 that has matched or Broken HALO3 sales record. answer..NONE. The game is still selling. Like it or not, That's just the FACTS. They have a franchise market for halo like toys, T-shirts, Costumes, Posters, Novels, etc.... Hell they now have a comic book for the series by Marvel, which is now owned by Disney.

So you can talk all the crap you want about HALO. I've yet to see SONY do with a PS3 game that M$ has done with HALO on the X360.
