When are automobile GPS units going to go heads up?

With the proliferation of GPS units for cars in the past few years, when will GPS units get heads-up technology? I believe CA & MN both have laws to prevent items, like GPS units, from being affixed to the windshield. Why not do heads-up.

For grins the other day going home from work I turned on my Garmin program within my Windows Smartphone. Laid it down on my dash, screen facing upward. Viola, I could see the road, I could see the display, barely, but I could see it. I thinking with a little improvement this would really work. Displays already show the speed, the direction, and of course a map. This would improve safety - minimizing the number of times a driver needs to look down, to the left or right. More time eyes ahead.

Car tech that would improve our driving experience and driving safety.

What do ya think?

Peace,
BQuad
