One of the smartphones that left quite an impression on us at was the HTC HD2. It could have been the massive 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen, its extreme thinness, or that the Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone was powered by Qualcomm's new 1GHz Snapdragon mobile processor--whatever the reason, we wanted this device.

Well, it looks like we might be only a few months away from seeing this wish become reality. Already shipping in Europe and now in Taiwan, HTC announced on Wednesday that it plans to bring the HTC HD2 to the United States with a major carrier in early 2010.

Unfortunately, the company did not reveal which U.S. provider would have that honor, or any pricing information, but we should note that the smartphone will be available through T-Mobile UK on November 9 and TmoNews has spotted the smartphone mentioned in some leaked T-Mobile USA documents. We'll let you know as soon as we hear anything official, but certainly something to look forward to in the new year. For a preview of what's to come, check out our from CTIA Fall 2009.

It's funny how putting a new interface overlay on top and enough power to simply blast through the laggy OS, all placed inside an impressive form factor, makes even a dog like Windows Mobile looks tempting.

If only this baby rocked Android. The Droid is a great start, but I won't be pulling the trigger on keyboards and gold bling. I'll wait for the Dragon/Passion.

I'm hoping Sprint gets it first since they passed on the HTC Touch Diamond2. With the HD2's gargantuan 4.3-in capa-touch screen I have no desire anymore to get their Touch Pro2 with the slide-out keyboard. Too bad HTC is missing what would be huge sales ahead of the US's Cmas season, but I guess it's taking more time to nail down a CDMA version (you know that's what it's got to be.)

Are you serious, Tmobile is the best Mobile service on the planet bar none. I have had every carrier at one time or another except Sprint and Tmobile is by far the best service. I never get droped calls or outages, they never over bill me like ATT did. Their phones are sweet, i have no idea why you would bash Tmobile.

It surely would be a waste if it went onto tmobile. I agree it needs to go to sprint. Tmobile doesnt even have 4g in the US I mean come on. They seem to be having outage problems as well. Sprint gets alot of HTC phones that are powered by Windows. It only makes sense to continue with that strong line up that they have already built upon. HTC, do the right thing and send this phone over to Sprint!

What carrier does have 4G in the US right now? They won't start rolling out until sometime next year and won't be fully up for a good 2-3 years. Sprint has WiMax but not on their devices, only as a Wi-Fi service. Tmobile is working on getting out 21Mbps HSDPA+, which I guess can be considered 3.5G or whatever it may be. Hate to say it, but things are indicative of it going to Tmobile here in the states. It will most likely be released across all four carriers at some point, just with different code names. For example, the Droid Eris for Verizon, is the essentially the Hero on Sprint.

Wow you guys are being very short sided. T-Mobile has Terrific Service sorry if its "COOL" to rip on the smaller company but guess what it really just makes you look ridiculous. With that being said this is going to be a Terrific Addition to T-Mobile USA and along with the Sony Ericcson Rumored X10 with their new close relationship with TMob, 2010 is REALLY going to be a Terrific year for T-Mobile.

Their 7.2 rollout will be out this year and 21mbps HSPA+ next year is going to be Awesome. So haters can keep saying the same old things but T-Mobile has been expanding 3G by leaps and bounds and this time Next year is going to have the Fastest Data Network in the USA bar none.

And with T-Mobile 4G being a simple software update to their brand new 3G towers, they definately will be rolling out 4G around the same time as its competitors. They will easily gain more subscribers with this plan and leave other companies HORRIBLE network like a certain one who cant keep a 3G signal for longer than 2 minutes due to network saturation and slowness(ATT I'm talking to you).

I look forward to 2010, its going to be the Strongest Year T-Mobile has ever had and I think a lot of you Haters will be surprised and suddenly be silenced as you eat your own words you've said and I"m sure WILL be saying.

Cheers! = D

Oh also at least T-Mobile has the Guts to let its Subscribers know there is a problem unlike ATT who like not so long ago had an Outage in Florida and didn't say anything while hoping its subscribers just didn't notice it. Please, I've had T-mobile for years since before they bought Voicestream and this is the VERY FIRST Outage In that Entire time that I've ever had with them. Other companies cannot say the same thing.

I'm with you Galen,

I have had Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T......So far, hate to say it, but Verizon was the best as far as coverage and drop of calls. Sprint lost calls in my area ALL THE TIME. So I kicked em. Verizon overcharged and jacked up rates like no tomorrow. AT&T has been great on the billing (sort of) but the 3G service drops to edge any time you go inside any kind of complex building. They have dead zones all over the place. If I sit on my screened in Lanai (outside mind you) I drop calls left and right. All that is left is T-Mobile and from what you describe I couldn't have asked for a better situation. I have heard good things and bad things. The bad things always seem to have no significant basis in reality. I have heard about good coverage in my area. They are GSM!!! Guess what guys GSM is what a MAJORITY of the Earth works off of. CDMA is significantly smaller and if you travel you are SOL unless you go to certain areas of India or other places with shotty CDMA coverage. I'm looking forward to drop kicking my Iphone 3G. It was a revolutionary phone. I admit that, but its no different than apple computers. They are limited in their ability by the company. The software selection is limited. The company (Apple) limits what you can do with your own hardware. This is why I booted the Apple computer to the curb when it WAS apple. Now the fancy overpriced MAC is showing its true colors just as apple did. So no iphone, no need for AT&T with their calls droping, they have been the worst next to Sprint for this.

T-Mobile....hear the folks with experience.....GET THE HD2........you'll win a lot of us over. Oh and offer a free upgrade or discounted upgrade to winmo7 when it comes out. How about that for a nail in the coffin.

Oh....did I mention FLASH compatibility, the ability to change your damn battery, a flash / light, better internet / browser.

LMAO!! Really Galen? don't make your self look like an idiot because most of the stuff you are saying is false or is incorrect. for one. if tmobile's service is terrific, then at&t's has to also be terrific if not better seeing that most of tmobile's network roams off of at&t's, yes i said, tmobile's network is really at&t's with a another name. lol if you dont believe me then check, you can even check tmobile's site and you will see how much roaming vs actual coverage they have. oh yeah, at&t has already rolled out it's 7.2Mb/s 3G upgrade in a few markets and it's 3G network covers about 110 million more people than tmobile's so called 3G network. not to mention that at&t's 3.6Mb/s 3G network performs faster than tmobile's 3.6 Mb/s 3G network. again, if you dont believe me then go check, can even check youtube. but back to what i was saying. tmobile is going to roll out its 7.2Mb/s 3G upgrade but you have to also remember that they have less 3G coverage so it's going to be less Money to upgrade the little 3G network they have deployed, which is said to cover 170 Million people, atleast according to them (at&t's 3G network covers over 280 Million and it's growing, just like tmobile's as well) and that's why they seem to be going faster than at&t, but we'll have to see if they were true to their word come this time next year. and dont get 3G and 4G mixed up because they are nowhere close to each other. tmobile doesn't have any spectrum that they can use for a 4G network, hence the reason they are upgrading their 3G networks. and you are completely wrong about tmobile 4G being a simple software update. like i just said, don't get 3G mixed up with 4G because it is HSPA+ that is a simple software update, not 4G (4G is going to need new towers, not existing, and it uses different frequencies (For more bandwidth), it is also more expensive to roll out, but its all worth it. 3G=41Mb/s 4G=360Mb/s) , and that is after they have upgraded to the 7.2Mb/s. Just clarifying somethings that i found wrong with your statement that i thought i should help you better understand on, hope i didn't offend you or anything.

chi09...it will either be T-Mobile or ATT. You can throw Verizon and Sprint out of the loop.....more than likely it is going to be T-Mobile.

I'd like to hear more news about a reported defect with the camera of this phone. Many news sites are reporting that the cameras on this handset are defective. Some call it the HTC HD2 Pink Aura problem. Circles of pink color appear on your photos.

If CNET hears more information on this I'd like to know. Especially an official response from HTC. I'd like to know if HTC will recall the defective units, or keep selling them, or offer a refund to anyone who's got one.

once I saw the review of the HTC HD2 I was hooked. Finally a phone with the screen size to match my PSP. Plus all the other bells and whistles. I am an avid Windows Mobile user so I was a little disappointed that once in the states, the HD2 will not be running WM on the Verizon version (Passion). However, that's just my own lack of experience or change. After reading a bunch of reviews, it sounds like not having WM OS will be a plus. If you own a HTC HD2, you discuss the phone at http://www.HTCHD2Forum.com I will be there often to share tricks.

The HTC HD2 phones sold in Europe have some kind of defect in the camera that puts a pink circle in the middle of photos. I hope this problem is rectified before the US release.
