BlackBerry watch in the works?

As if checking e-mail on your BlackBerry wasn't addicting enough, there may be an accessory in the works that may just fuel your habit. CrackBerry.com has posted images of what it's claiming to be actual renderings of a BlackBerry watch.

The site claims that the Bluetooth accessory is being developed by a new, dedicated BlackBerry accessory company and will be branded as the inPulse Smartwatch. It's not meant to be a replacement for your BlackBerry but rather shows your notifications and previews of incoming messages for those times when you can't pull out your BlackBerry; for example, during meetings, while driving, and so forth.

CrackBerry says the InPulse will have an OLED screen that's optimized for displaying text clearly and will have solid battery life.

"Connected watches" haven't had the most successful run in the past (read: Microsoft Spot watches), though the LG Watch Phone certainly has piqued some people's interest. While the InPulse is just a rumor right now, what do you think? Useful or a waste of time?

It's all a matter of marketing. Watches have become nothing more than a fashion statement (i.e., if you can't afford a Rolex for showing off, you probably don't wear watches anymore) because the younger generation is all about devices that multitask. Why get a watch when your phone, mp3 player, and laptop all tell the time? That said, looking at your wrist is the quickest, most convenient way of telling time, as opposed to taking your phone or mp3 player out of the holder, all while being discreet in a meeting or classroom. But if you could check the time, email alerts, and text through a bluetooth watch for a reasonable price, why not wear a watch? Like I said, it's all in the marketing to make people feel they need it and that it's the new "it" product to have.

I'm getting a storm 2 and would love having this watch, just so I don't have to take the phone out every time I get a text, call etc. Wait, this does display incoming calls right?

Am i the only one that sees this as genius???
at my highschool, if we are caught using cell phones, we get 2 day suspension. CONSTANTLY i get texts from friends that go to another school though. this would be perfect so that i could read what they have to say and if it is important i respond, i ask to go to the bathroom and take care of it, if not, i'll know its unimportant and be able to concentrate on my work. this device would be so awesome!

You see this as genius because you are more interested in your social life than getting an education. What a waste.

PS- I'll want Mustard and Ketchup only on my Jr. Whopper when I see you in 10 years gallagherm1993

Am I the only one that sees the obvious flaw?
How rude is it to sit in a meeting looking at your watch every two seconds? Looking at a pda is bad enough but at east its understandable. Looking at your watch constantly just sends out the message "I dont want to be here and im not paying attention". Doomed to fail.
Its clearly an attempt to get around legislation that prevents the use of devices when driving - but by the various laws it wont as there are plenty clauses that are left deliberately vague to include anything that may provide a distraction.

really who cares what people think...
i would love this when im sitting in clas and cant text

Agreed- I would think it would certainly send the wrong signal to people in a meeting.

And btw - checking your watch constantly in class will likely get you detention / suspension / some form of punishment as well - and likely your watch confiscated.
Heres a thought - maybe you should pay attention in class unless the lure of flipping burgers is too great?

Come to think of it, constantly checking your blackberry watch while you drive is dangerous too....thats why they have dashboard clocks or displays.

I think it will look about as cool as wearing a calculator watch.... IDK Maybe if you put some bling-bling on it.

You can't get a speeding ticket for talking with your watch, can you?

Oh, just great!! Another plug in device that we have to charge everyday. I have own a black for many years now and taking it out to view messages is not at all cumbersome. Remember, you can view them when you want, you don't have to take out your black every time it vibrates. sheeesh !!

I gave up wrist watch some time ago. Didn't really like having something on my arm and could pull out my cell phone, now a blackberry, to tell the time and date. In meetings, I can usually discreetly pull my blackberry out of its case and briefly view text. I can sometimes even make brief responses, usually just that I'm in meeting and for about how long.

It's amazing how Americans think they've invented everything - the car, the radio, TV, the CD player, and now the cell phone watch. Well, it seems the Chinese invented this about two years ago (go to Chinavasion.com and similar sites), and the big Koreans - LG, Samsung and Hyundai - have recently come out with outrageously expensive imitations, which do little more than their Chinese counterparts, if anything.
Now Blackberry is going to join the party with yet another undoubtedly costly version of this device, and you Yanks will again think you've invented the wheel.
BTW, I recently bought a Chinese-made cell phone watch from a Chinese site; it works fine and is built very well. The Chinese don't always put out junk.

Rubygabbi, when you have a chance, will you please send a link of the cell phone watch you bought? I'd be interested in making a comparison. Thank you!
