Ep. 631: Where we touch our Magic Trackpad
Apple refreshed its lineup of iMac desktop computers this morning to include faster CPUs and an improved graphics chip for games and video editing. The new computers also support larger hard drives (and even solid-state drives) with a higher capacity SDXC card slot for your media and start at $1,199.
Apple also announced a new line of Mac pro machines that offer up to 12 cores and Turbo Boost, a technology that can deliver even higher processor speeds. And the company unveiled a gorgeous 27-inch LED display to complement the new system.
Finally, Apple showed off the Magic Trackpad, a touch-sensitive accessory for the iMac that lets you pinch, pull, scroll, and move the same way you would on the iPhone and iPad. It connects using wireless Bluetooth, and Apple even sells a $29 rechargeable battery pack that comes with six batteries to let users swap out existing alkaline devices like the Wireless Keyboard, the Magic Trackpad, and the Magic Mouse. Look for full reviews on all the products in Apple's summer refresh soon.
The other big news coming out of California is Comic-Con 2010, and CNET's own Molly Wood waded through the sea of geeks to get the scoop for a special episode of The Buzz Report on CNET TV.
The three of us are most excited about the cast of the new "Avengers" movie, to be directed by Joss Whedon of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fame. The entire cast of "The Avengers" assembled at a special panel at the show and include Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo replacing Ed Norton as the Hulk, and Robert Downey Jr. will obviously reprise his role as Iron Man.
Tune in to the show to hear our take on all the news coming out of this year's Comic-Con 2010, including Disney and Guillermo Del Toro's "Haunted Mansion" remake, this year's epic freak face-stabbing incident, and sneak peak gameplay footage from the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter titles!
