Ep. 598: Where we FINISH HIM
A trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie is making its way around the Internet, but fans of the controversial 2D fighting game from the '90s may be surprised to hear about its origin.
According to Jeri Ryan's Twitter, the video is actually just a teaser that the director made to sell Warner Brothers (who now owns Midway, the company who made the video game)) on the idea of a Mortal Kombat redux.
Although the film is still very much in beta for now, fans of the original series are already excited about the alternative storyline that does away with the "five realms" and frames the competition as a worldwide tournament open only to the world's deadliest assassins and hosted by Shang Tsung, of course.
The trailer features a couple big name actors like Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade and Michael Jai White as Jax (sans bionic arm), and also retains the gruesome brutality that gave the original game a mature rating, including the classic ending fatalities. Finally, and perhaps most gratifyingly, is that the trailer DOES NOT use the awful techno theme song from the first two movies.
We've got a few more stories to get to in the rundown, including Ford finally introducing Google Maps into its navigation systems and a couple Calls From the Public that take issue with Wilson's handicap accessibility claims surrounding the new Apple iPhone 4. Tune in to hear it all!
