The elusive Snow Leopard.

Wilson's back, but we figure everyone is tired of hearing about the Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard by now, so we shift gears and talk about Walmart shoppers instead. Behold: a new blog documenting the People of Walmart. While Wilson "Tennessee" Tang thinks this all looks pretty typical, Jeff and I are straight up spooked. It's humiliating enough to set foot in a Walmart, but what if I just need to pick up deodorant? Now I have to worry about being publicly humiliated on this blog too? And who brought that goat into the store?

After our rant is over, we move on to dissect a few upcoming movies like James Cameron's newest science fiction CGI powerhouse, "Avatar." The weird part is that James Cameron has been planning this movie for 10 years but hasn't been able to make it because the technology just wasn't there. Well, now it's here...and the movie looks like a cheesy cut scene from Halo. Next up on the butcher block is "Cirque de Freak: The Vampire's Assistant." Don't get me wrong, I love me some John C. Reilly, but a convincing vampire he is not. When was the last time you've seen a bloodsucker with curly hair?

The rest of the show devolves into the three hosts doing vampire impressions, which isn't incredibly hard to do, just follow these three steps:

  • Talk loudly and open-mouthed
  • Raise the intonation of your voice at the end of every sentence
  • Don't forget the "AH AH AHHH" at the end

If you're like Wilson and don't have anything to do over the weekend, why don't you give us a call at 1-866-404-CNET and tell us what's on your mind? We're also on Twitter, Facebook, and Meetup as well, so there's really no excuse for falling out of touch. Or, if you have a suggestion for our Weekend Throwback Episode, let me know in a comment below!

I go to walmart every once in a while (it's close to where I live and sometimes I don't want to drive all the way into town) and it is awful always one or two screaming children adults cursing at each other and the people are rude, on top of all that walmart has a very stressful environment the way it is set up

I love you Wilson... I really do. But that Wal Mart Sam's Choice thing makes no sense at all.

Why would they go to the trouble of creating their whole line of products, say drinks, to drive people to buy the more expensive version? If their brand didn't exist... everyone would be buying the more expensive drink anyway. I mean, right?

I can taste a difference in sams choice and actually I don't get near the phlemmy residue in my throat as I do with coke. I'd actually say I prefer it. And if I had a choice between coke and faygo best believe I'd snatch the faygo first.

Retailers create their own brand of generic products with sub-par marketing so that they can upsell the premium products. Whereas Wal-Mart might make a few cents on selling Sam Choice, they stand to make bigger profits by selling Coke. Now, that begs the question, why create a cheaper brand at all? Well, the answer is twofold: 1) there is a segment of the market that is wholly driven by price consideration alone, so Wal-Mart doesn't want to drive those sales to a competitor 2) Consumers choose products not just on price considerations, but other factors like brand identity, taste, performance, etc..., so by creating sub-par brand, they create an easier distinction for consumers who prefer "brand quality". It's like some people who will only buy brand medications rather than the generics. There is no clinical reason why someone would choose a brand over a generic, except that some consumers associate higher quality brands with better performance. (e.g. Tylenol over plain Acetaminophen).

Err. Is that a typo on the title? sSow?
Just thought I would point that out. I couldn't care any less about anything apple makes besides the ipod touch. I just wish the Itouch had a bigger screen ya know? something to REALLY get your hands around while browsing.

Haha, I went to Walmart today and bought some "Great Value" peanuts (hope it doesn't kill me). I wish my hair was bigger so I could've been a candidate for that People of Walmart site. ^_~

My Dad always calls them "Pubix" Hahahah
I just bought a 24 pack of Poland Spring water for $3 for college...
That's crazy I mean that doesn't even cover shipping for a 10 pound case.
I get the whole buy in bulk to receive a discount but still that's crazy ... $3.

There are many examples of top tier companies using their own products and just rebranding them. Whirlpool will take washer and dryers and put another face plate on them labeled Roper. They are the EXACT same washer and dryer. I know an owner of an appliance store that proved this to me by removing the tops and backs of a Whirlpool and Roper washer. There was not one single wire, connector, slot, etc. that was any different on either unit. I was shocked.

the Saw movies take 30 days to make, and they have signed until at least Saw IX. The odd thing is... the main character died in third one, lol
