DivX is pretty much a staple for anyone who downloads videos from the Interwebs, as virtually all videos distributed that way are compressed and encoded using the DivX format. The DivX player has always been free of charge, but DivX Pro, which you need if you want to create your own DivX files, costs $19.99. Or not, if you hurry up and take advantage of a DivX holiday promotion offering DivX Pro absolutely free. It's available for Windows and Mac users, though I don't know for how long: the site doesn't say when the promotion ends. (If anyone does know, hit the Comments page and speak up!)

Would be good if it actually worked! This is pretty funny... At the end of the install process, after writing my email address and clicking "Next", I am presented with the following error: "You are not online. Please connect to the Internet to receive an email with your free serial number for DivX Pro. Would you like to connect and try again?". No matter what I do, and despite the fact that I am online and able to send and receive email, this error doesn't go away! Holiday freebie? More like an April fool's joke... Anybody else getting similar results?

This could be due to having a Sonicwall Firewall in place. I too received the same message and after sniffing the wire was able to determine the Sonicwall was blocking the registration

Worked just fine for me. Probly won't ever use it, but hey! it's free.

I already own DivX Pro. :-( But I have gotten my money's worth; I've had it for almost two years now.
