No muss, no fuss.

It's always been a dream to have kitchen appliances know what we want for dinner--or if not what we want to eat, at least how to make it. From the popcorn button on our microwaves to toaster ovens with preset functions, kitchen appliances have always strived to be more accommodating to our wants and needs. While we may not yet have fully integrated kitchens, we do at least have a continuing trend of smart appliances geared to automatically make adjustments as needed.

The Bosch Tassimo Titanium Single-Serve Beverage Brewer takes a familiar technology and uses it to facilitate effortless coffee making. Using bar-code technology, the machine reads information off of special T-Disc (Tassimo Disc) beverage containers, and adjusts brewing time and temperature accordingly. More than 40 beverage varieties are available in the special T-Disc packages, including ones for cappuccino, tea, latte, and hot chocolate.

With virtually no cleanup or setup, brewing is made as easy as can be. Each cup is predetermined in volume, so this really is a machine built around ease of use; those that prefer control should look elsewhere. Meanwhile, the effortless aspect of this beverage brewer is certainly a plus, and bound to be an appealing aspect to those that want simplicity of use. Until that time when the integrated kitchen can learn how to read minds, appliances that just know how to do their job will have to do.

I got the earlier Tassimo as a gift a couple years ago. It was really great.
But, I'm not liking it as much now as I used to.

The coffee is expensive, for one (35 - 85 cents per cup depending on coffee brand).
The water filters are also very expensive, though you don't need one if you use filtered water.
There is a lot of waste with those plastic T-discs.
It is messy when making cappuccino or cafe lattes. though still easy to clean.
It was very loud when brewing (not sure about this Bosch one).
I can't put larger sized mugs underneath (this Bosch looks taller, so I dunno).
Plus, there was no way to put in your own bagged coffee.

The Keurig brand maker allows you to put your own coffee in a special cup to brew. I don't know why Tassimo hasn't done it. I'm sure it's due to wanting to sell more of their coffee brands.

Tassimo does sell Starbucks and you can tell the difference between those and say Maxwell House. They cost more per cup, but the quality is better. I want Tassimo to get Dunkin' Donuts brand coffee. Keurig has Donut House brand ... so it makes sense that Tassimo gets Dunkin' or is that too blue-collar?

I still like my Tassimo, I'm just not 100% happy with it. If my Tassimo breaks or if I just get tired of paying for their brands of coffee, I may end up getting the Keurig simply for the re-usable coffee cups (unless reviews tell me not to). I want the ability to make my own single serve coffee.

I have the Tassimo 65, and I'm loving it. I started out with the Tassimo Braun w/o filter and it was such a nice machine, I decided to upgrade. The new Tassimo Bosch is much quieter, sleeker, cleaner to run, takes up less room, and you can fill your travel mugs. I would say its a lot quicker and beverages are hotter. But then again my older T-Braun is running on its last leg. Selection of brews is growing, soon to come out Starbuck Primo Latte, and SB cappucino. Although some have said frothy drinks lack enough froth, I read a posting in which a person wrote if you shake the milks before placing in the unit, the froth is better. That advice did indeed make an improvement in the froths I now get for cappacino and Latte. I buy Freshly roasted coffee beans for my other coffee pot, and for what I pay in T-cups for special coffees I'd say price is comparable. I love the convenience, speed, quality, and the ability to accomodate my guests different tastes, not to mention my own ; )
