Buzz Out Loud 741: 3Gasm

Posted by Molly Wood
All the iPhone and App Store news you can shake a stick at. Plus, RIM and Palm say they're thrilled about the new iPhone. Huh. Us, too! But it's a delayed, uh, 3Gasm, since the phone won't be coming out until July 11. In other news, Amazon broke itself, the MPAA wants to break your movie recording, and SanDisk kills the TakeTV and Fanfare less than a year after it was born.

Rating ads on CNET

Hello —
In episode 740 you discussed the “new” idea of giving feedback on ads.
HELLO? Do you not know that the CNET BOL page has already had this
feature for some time? In spite of what Tom says “you will do”, I have
given positive feedback on the ads I find unobtrusive and/or clever, as
well as ranting about annoying ads. (especially the ones where I’ve
accidentally activated a pop-up by mousing over the ad. GRRRR– I
refuse to read ads that do this!!!)

Of course I’ve done the verboten “pause podcast” to write this, so I
hope you didn’t mention this later in the show. :-)

Icelandscg in the Azores (for one more week– then moving to Germany)

**************

Just wanted to say congrats to some BOL listeners

Last week a couple of friends of mine who are Buzz Out Loud listeners
got married.

I know they’re listening so I just wanted to say congratulations to Jeff
& Cela Schiffman.
Also, for the benefit of any nerds who are reading this (Tom, Molly, and
Jason) check out the wedding ring…

Designed by the groom it has Sapphires for the engine and a diamond in
the gun turret. It also split in two. When he proposed he gave her the
back half and said “You can have half now and the other half when we
reach Alderaan.”
Also, their wedding cake…

Also designed by the groom.

This is what happens when two people meet in a 6 week long line for a
Star Wars film in Hollywood :)

Love the show!

I do not understand how you can say that 16gigs on the iPhone is enough space. I have a hard enough time shuffling the music/podcast on my iPod classic (160gig) I often have to remove play lists just so I can add on newer podcast. Granted I do have ~ 500gigs of music, and ~25gigs of podcasts and yes most of that is video that won?t fit/play on the classic, I doubt it will work on the iPhone. But even if they had a 32gig version it would still be a tight fit to switch over to it just for my podcasts. As it is I carry my BlackBerry 8830(company issue) my cell phone Nokia N95, my big iPod for music/podcast and Tom-Tom 920T in the car. I would look at the IPhone as a replacement only if it was 32gig and it had a flash drive slot for another say 4 or 8 gig. But I guess that?s asking too much isn?t it?

you can access 20GB's.. ... you can prolly use your idisk.. i use it all the time when i work and swap files even though we have a server sometimes its just easier. also in my class there is normally about 10 who have .mac accounts . sometimes less sometimes more. so its just easy I look forward to the "me" when it starts though having to go into the store to get an iphone and not being able to do the simple pre pay go phone plan again makes me a little sad.

Alright, so you guys talk about a Millennium Falcon wedding ring, that you have clearly seen, and yet I find no link to it in the show notes. For shame!

Ed from Texas, I'm seeing the link up there in the show notes http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/4976/2551835869343acf30d8bwj8.jpg
When they were pronounced man and wife a Mariachi band started playing the Ewok music from the end of Return of the Jedi. That was the only other Star Wars thing at the wedding (Unless you count the impromptu lightsaber duel on the dance floor)

I seriously cannot believe they called the iPhone a Mini Wii, a DS competitor, and a PSP Killer.

There is 0 tacticle feedback on the iPhone. The only thing you can do is move it like the Wii-mote, which is nice, but if you're expecting there to be a slew of good games to buy that actually kill the PSP, compete with the DS, and is a mini Wii, then you guys are surely misinformed.

Would you give your kid an iPhone? Would you buy $199 for an iPhone + 2 year contract just to play games?

Right...
