Zillow's new Digs app offers remodeling ideas, advice

Online real estate listing aggregator Zillow launched an app today that aims to help home shoppers and home buyers with their home improvement projects.

Available for the iPad and the Web, Zillow Digs is a free app designed to offer inspiration as well as information about remodeling projects. The free app lets users browse thousands of photos of bathroom, kitchen, and outdoor projects, as well as get estimates on the cost of the actual project based on the user's location.

Real estate brokerage site Redfin suffers outage

Zillow has gone public. Trulia just announced it was going public. Redfin, another established online real estate brokerage, hasn't announced any plan to go public yet, but it is making news. The site went down for several hours Saturday morning, keeping weekend home shoppers in the dark.

The company posted a tweet to explain its troubles: "We are having a little Saturday morning tussle with our master database; we're working on it and will be back up as soon as we can."

A year after Zillow, Trulia files for IPO

The stock market is getting another home listing Web site.

Trulia today filed an S-1 Registration Statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, kicking off the process of holding an IPO and offering its shares on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "TRLA."

According to the documents filed with the SEC, Trulia generated $38.5 million in revenue last year, but lost $6.2 million. During the first six months of 2012, its revenue is way up, jumping to $29 million from $16.2 million during the same period last year. That said, the company … Read more

If you've ever been curious about the price of a particular house in America, chances are you've been to Zillow.com. That's the site that lets you type in an address to find out its estimated sale price (called a "Zestimate") along with details about the house and, in most cases, the exact date and price it last sold for as well as information about property taxes, nearby schools, and neighboring homes.

Zillow's shares double in stock market debut

On Zillow's first day of trading on the Nasdaq, its shares more than doubled, soaring to $45 this morning from its initial pricing of $20 a share.

The company sold 3.46 million shares to raise $70 million. It will also complete a private placement, totaling $5 million, and will have the option of selling 500,000 additional shares, depending on demand.

The Seattle-based company, which aggregates real-estate listings and mortgage information, trades under the ticker symbol "Z." (Later in the day, shares had fallen back to just above $38.)

Zillow prices IPO at $20 a share

Zillow today priced its initial public offering at $20 a share, well above the $12 to $14 range in which the online real estate aggregator expected to price earlier this month.

The Seattle-based company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission today that it plans to sell nearly 3.5 million shares, raising about $69.2 million. Zillow will be worth close to $400 million once it goes public, according to documents filed with the SEC today.

The Seattle-based company, which aggregates real estate listings online, has priced its IPO between $12 and $14 a share. Once the sale is complete, it will have 27,058,139 outstanding shares. At $14 a share, the company will be worth $378.8 million.

Zillow appoints new CEO, talks growth

Online real estate service Zillow.com on Tuesday announced a new CEO, Spencer Rascoff.

Rascoff was formerly Zillow's COO and vice president of marketing. Before joining the company, he was vice president of lodging at Expedia. And prior to that, Rascoff co-founded travel site Hotwire in 1999 and sold it to Expedia for $675 million in 2003.

Rascoff replaces Zillow co-founder Rich Barton, who will maintain his position as executive chairman of Zillow's board of directors. Co-founder Lloyd Frink will give up his role as president and become Zillow's chief strategy officer. The company said it's … Read more
