Review: Alter the sound of your voice with Voice Changer Plus

Voice Changer Plus is not necessarily unique, but its clever interface and integration of multiple free voices and sound effects for altering or even transforming a recording are not only well done, but also incredibly fun to use. This is a very feature-rich, free app that provides all of the core functions in the lite version, and that makes it easy to use without any unnecessary menus or barriers.

Open Voice Changer Plus and you are shown a single screen where all of the functions can be accessed. The first step is to record your voice as you say something. … Read more

The Force is weak with this one

Admit it: you've always wanted to talk like Darth Vader. Alas, your voice has all the deep, menacing bass of Justin Bieber's. Enter Star Wars: Vader Yourself, a Lucasfilm-licensed app that makes your spoken words sound like the big man's--in theory, at least.

We like the app from a style standpoint: it's modeled after the control panel on Vader's chest. To make a recording, you tap the Record switch, provide a file name, then start speaking. You're instructed to use a loud, menacing voice--meaning you should probably find a very secluded area, unless you'… Read more

If it talks like a duck, it might be this voice changer

Given how awful cell phone reception is in our area, it's doubtful that anyone would need a voice changer when conversations often sound like they're under water as it is. But outfits like Spyville never saw a situation that couldn't be subjected to some form of amateur espionage.

That must be why they thought up the Cell Phone Voice Changer, which is pretty much self-explanatory. We do admit that the choice of disguises did catch us off guard: "a duck, child, old man, or a robot," as related by OhGizmo.

What's most amusing about … Read more

The perfect phone for Ferris Bueller

This is one phone that we think should be banned from the U.S. market--or, at least, from any households with teenagers. But that would seem to be the marketing target for this Chinese-made item, given the teddy bear (or whatever it is) on the receiver.

On the surface it's as basic as a phone can possibly be these days, almost a throwback that even has a cord. Except for one key feature: It has a built-in voice-changing technology. SlashGear says it can even make one sound like the opposite sex, which would undoubtedly come in handy for schoolkids … Read more

How to sound like three aliens

Call us killjoys, but we think it's never a good sign when a product description includes a boldfaced FBI warning immediately preceding an age recommendation of "4 and up." ("This device must not be used to make threatening phone calls!")

That's what the product literature says about this "Alien Voice Changer" from Atamaii Anime Toys. The gadget is so named because it makes you sound like extraterrestrial beings, according to Red Ferret--specifically, three aliens from Cartoon Networks' Ben 10: Greymatter, Heatblast and Fourarms. (What, no Stinkfly?)

The changer also comes with stickers … Read more

You too can talk like 'Optimus Prime'

We don't care how much our kids love Transformers: There's no way we'll ever let them have one of these. They'd sneak around the house with it and scare us into the coronary ward.

Hasbro's "Optimus Prime Voice Changer Helmet," according to Pocket-lint, "converts the most gentle of voices into the powerful, fearless tones of Optimus himself." The $30 toy, which is scheduled to come out in June, also can be set for "battle phrases" and "conversion sounds" as it transforms from truck to robot and vice-versa. … Read more
