Vimeo delves into paid, on-demand videos

New York-based video-hosting site Vimeo today added a way for its paying users to sell their works online as part of a new program.

At South by Southwest, the company announced Vimeo On Demand, which lets its paying Pro users (a $199 a year service) sell access to their videos to other users.

Vimeo buys app that turns your video stills into animations

Vimeo has brought aboard a new app (and new people) that can transform your videos into animations.

The company announced today that it now owns Echograph, an app that lets iPhone and iPad users create animations by blending together different parts of a video clip.

Purchased from Clear-Media, the Echograph app previously cost $3 but is now available free.

As described in a promotional video (see embedded clip below), an Echograph is a photograph that contains small slices of animation. You start off by selecting a video and then trimming it to 5 seconds. You then pick a single still frame from the clip. A Microsoft executive revealed that 40 million licenses of Windows 8 have been sold since it came out last month. Vimeo launches 'reimagined' free iPhone app

Video-sharing service Vimeo has launched a new iPhone application that has been built from the ground up.

The company's redesigned application, which hit the Apple App Store today, allows users to both create and share videos all from within the app. In addition, users will now find easier access to their video queue and simpler navigation. Vimeo releases six videos for pay-to-view service preview

Vimeo today released six full-length films as part of a preview for its new pay-to-view service coming early next year.

The company said in a blog post that customers can purchase the movies on Vimeo and watch them on any compatible device, including smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and connected TVs.

"Our goal is to provide an open and flexible platform that allows all creators and content owners to earn revenue directly from their audiences," Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor said in a statement.

One Day on Earth is a stunning global snapshot (Q&A)

Today is Earth Day, and to celebrate it filmmakers Kyle Ruddick and Brandon Litman have released "One Day on Earth," a remarkable snapshot of our planet that was shot in every country of the world on October 10, 2010.

More than 19,000 filmmakers, professional and novice, contributed more than 3,000 hours of footage to the project, which has the support of the United Nations and 60 nonprofit organizations. The archive is being hosted by Vimeo, with Ning hosting the related social network.
