On top of that, Samsung'… Read more

Boost, Virgin Mobile get first LTE smartphones

Sprint subsidiaries Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile finally joined the LTE wave today by acquiring their first devices compatible with Sprint's growing network. Though both carriers carry WiMax handsets, Sprint began phasing out that network in favor of LTE last year.

Virgin's Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE is another member of the company's ever-expanding Galaxy family. Its feature set shows that Virgin continues to up the ante on its smartphone lineup.

Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 5-megapixel camera with HD video capture, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, … Read more

Sprint will reportedly enter prepaid business itself

Sprint Nextel is about to dip its own toes into the prepaid world, according to Android Police.

Sprint will launch its own prepaid service on January 25, initially offering two smartphones and two basic phones, the site said, citing promotional material it obtained. The smartphone plan costs $70 a month for unlimited talk, text, and data, although there are roaming restrictions for data use on its 3G EVDO network. The basic phone plan costs $50 a month.

The move would mark an expansion of Sprint's already significant push into the prepaid business. The company has largely relied on its … Read more

The 404 451: Where we take a bite out of a Windows 7 burger

Happy Windows 7 Day everyone! Much to Wilson's chagrin, there is indeed another operating system out there, and the new version just came out today. Users unhappy with Windows Vista can now breath a sigh of relief, as the new OS combines a strong design with an easy-to-use interface that many are calling "Vista done right," but more.

Check out our own Seth Rosenblatt's full review of Microsoft Windows 7 (Professional), then head over to CNET's Windows 7 landing page for full coverage and a live blog of today's launch event.

Most interesting about Windows 7 is Microsoft's impressive worldwide media promotion, which includes Burger Kings in Japan rolling out the official Windows 7 burger. The meaty behemoth actually has seven meat patties and carries a 777 special price for Japanese customers.

The limited-time offer is an effort to promote the software as "leaner and meaner," although we don't get how a heart attack between two buns will get the message out there. Seth MacFarlane is getting in on the viral marketing as well--on November 18, Microsoft will sponsor a full half-hour episode of "Family Guy." Be sure to watch the sneak peak that features Stewie and Brian poking fun at Microsoft's new features.

Finally, Jeff's pick for today's Beck's Beer Audio Draft is a band on Victory Records called The Audition. Although we agree with Jeff that they might be the pop-iest band we've featured on the show, they nevertheless have a feel-good sound that takes us back to our teenage years. The first song of the day is entitled "My Temperature's Rising" off the band's newest self-titled album.

Unfortunately, the band just got off a tour with our beloved Alkaline Trio, but be sure to check back on their Last.FM page for the latest concert info.

A motorcycle to be seen as well as heard

It may not have a Wi-Fi computer or a waterproof GPS unit, but this motorcycle will still manage to turn heads--in a good way.

The "Victory Vision 2008" has iPod navigation controls built into the handlebars and a dashboard display, according to Chip Chick. That in and of itself is handy, but there are other bikes with similar features. What sets this one apart is a four-speaker system in higher-end models, with an option for XM Radio.

If the bike is anywhere near as fast as it looks, however, we'd suggest skipping the speakers. As we've … Read more
