Alcatel-Lucent CEO Ben Verwaayen stepping down

Alcatel-Lucent announced today that Ben Verwaayen is resigning after serving four years as CEO of the Franco-American network equipment maker.

The imminent resignation of Verwaayen, who will stay on while the company's board searches for a replacement, was previously reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Report: Alcatel-Lucent taps new chairman, CEO

Troubled Franco-American telecom Alcatel-Lucent has tapped two new top executives in a bid to turn its fortunes around, according to reports out Monday.

Philippe Camus, a former aerospace executive at EADS, will serve as the new chairman, while Ben Verwaayen, former head of BT Group PLC, will be chief executive. The Wall Street Journal said the announcement could be made as early as Tuesday morning. Alcatel-Lucent had no comment, according to the Journal.
