Supposed untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 ends up being fake

An unidentified hacker behind a hack called Dream Jailbreak pulled a fast one on countless iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch owners today with the announcement and heavy teasing of an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak, or software that lets users gain deep access to their device without fear of losing it all after rebooting.

In a proof-of-concept video posted earlier, the unidentified hacker connects his iPhone 5 to a computer via USB; accesses a Web site through Safari (the identity of the site is blurred in the vid); and then runs an application called Dream (coming to Windows and Mac) on his computer. Untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak makes it into the wild

It's been a busy week in the realm of iPhone hackery. Earlier today there was the release of an unofficial port of Siri for older iPhones, and now that's joined by an untethered jailbreak for users on Apple's iOS 5.0.1.

The software tweak, which was announced as working by hacker @pod2g earlier this month, works on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (both GSM and CDMA), iPad 1, and third- and fourth-generation iPod Touch devices, allowing users to jailbreak their phones. Untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreaking workaround

Though this isn't the official untethered jailbreaking solution for iOS 4.2.1, the iPhone Dev Team has produced a short demo video showing off a workaround method for getting it done now.

Hack-master comex is still working on the permanent untethered jailbreak, but if you've been following the jailbreaking community and happen to have saved SHSH blobs from your iOS device, your device could be jailbroken today.
