Review: Apple iTunes for Mac revamps its interface and improves performance

Apple iTunes for Mac continues doing its thing, managing and playing your media, constructing playlists, selling music, and renting movies; but the interface is always evolving.

We updated Apple iTunes for Mac via Apple's Software Update, upgrading 10.7 to 11.0.4 without any issues. A dramatically redesigned interface was apparent right off the bat. The sidebar was gone--it can be restored--and all our albums were displayed in a grid of album covers. We scrolled through our 2,231 albums, smoothly and precisely, but iTunes 10 could not handle a library of this size very well, making browsing … Read more

Apple TV nears Time Warner Cable deal, Bloomberg says

Apple and Time Warner Cable are nearing a deal that would bring new channels to the computer maker's set-top box, Apple TV, for subscribers of the cable television service, Bloomberg reported Tuesday citing people with knowledge of the talks.

A deal would bring the set-top box a significant influx of channels, and its first flood of live ones.

Apple has been expanding its offerings on the device, which connects Web videos and other media to the traditional television but lacks the the broad array of channels that its chief competitor Roku offers.

Earlier this year, Apple TV got its … Read more

In case you didn't know, it's all happening in Canberra, Australia.

The only thing left to discover is what it is that is happening in Canberra, Australia.

With no script to work from, she was left seeking words that had suddenly left, perhaps to have a beer in the local pub. She must have wished she'… Read more

Intel's TV 'Black Box Project' poised for big changes in debut

Thousands of Intel employees have exclusive trial access to the company's up-and-coming TV service, but what they're using is leaps away from the final product, CNET has learned.

As CNET earlier reported, Intel in late March started conducting closed trials of its Internet TV service and set-top box with company employees in three West Coast markets. We've now learned more about that test program, code-named the "Black Box Project."

Currently, more than 2,000 Intel employees in Northern California, Arizona, and Oregon are testing the product in their homes, people familiar with the matter told … Read more

Twitter to Paula Deen: H-word has more power than n-word

Twitter can be an ugly place.

Invective instantly rolls off the tongue and into 140 characters before the mind has been asked an opinion on its merit.

However, since the revelation that famous Southern cook Paula Deen allegedly admitted that she used the n-word (details embedded), at least some of the Twitterati decided to rise above base instincts and cook up something different: The Humor Kabob.

There appeared the hashtag #PaulasBestDishes.

And there, various people from around the world added a little sugar, a touch of salt, just the right amount of vinegar, and wrapped it around a skewer.

ESPN, HBO come to Apple TV

Apple TV is getting live sports and "Game of Thrones" beamed straight to its box, as Apple announces Time Warner's HBO Go and Disney's WatchESPN apps are now available.

But confounding would-be cord cutters, most of the content appears limited to people who already subscribe to a pay-TV provider. It was a sticking point Apple had reportedly fought against.

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of software and services, predicted in a statement that HBO GO and WatchESPN still will be "huge hits on Apple TV," given the two apps are some of … Read more
