The Hot Tug: Decadence, by way of a hot-tub boat

I once had the extreme good fortune of riding around in a hot tub with 13 other people on the back of a truck in the middle of a desert. There was no driver -- it was in first gear and moving along at about five miles an hour. When we'd get close to the edge of the desert, someone would jump out, run up to the cab, turn the wheel and we'd have another hour of uninterrupted fun. It was probably the coolest thing I ever did.

Over at Gizmodo today, though, I ran across the Hot Tug, a "wood-fired hot tub in which you can sail and a tugboat in which you can enjoy warm baths." This might be a challenger for that cool crown. … Read more

Secure the bath tub!

Shark Dash is another in a long line of Angry Birds clones, but offers enough variation in gameplay that it will appeal to any physics puzzle addict.

Like many sling-shot games, the goal with Shark Dash is to pull back, then fling your hero (in this case, a cute shark) to collect or destroy items in as few shots as possible. Also like Angry Birds, the storyline is simple: the evil rubber duckies have stolen Sharkee's girlfriend, Sally, and now Sharkee is exacting revenge while taking out the rubber duckies that continue to taunt him. Sound familiar? It's … Read more

Hot Tub Boats to give Seattle folks scenic soaks

After a stunning mid-70s yesterday here in the San Francisco Bay Area, today brought back the chill. Which makes the idea of a hot tub sound mighty appealing right about now.

You know what sounds even more appealing though? Soaking in a hot tub while bobbing around the bay gazing upon sights like the Golden Gate Bridge and Transamerica Pyramid.

If these new Hot Tub Boats float their way south from Seattle anytime soon, we shivering Bay Areans might actually be able to enjoy a super-scenic soak. The creators of the Hot Tub Boats say they plan to build a fleet of four to be available for rent on Seattle's Lake Union by the end of summer. We can only hope the concept takes off and the watercraft steer their way to other parts of the county too. … Read more

'Love Tub'--the ultimate Valentine

Yes, we're already sick of Valentine's Day talk too, but this is one gift that will put those red Vaios and pink Nanos to shame. We're talking a full-scale "Love Tub" here. The in candy-apple red "Amore Bay" is a limited-edition hot tub that's ready for suburban romance, from its built-in stereo and "hydronomically" designed seats to its mood lighting and landscape etching, according to BornRich.

There are no TVs or recliners involved (bummer), but we suppose those are the sacrifices of love. "All that's left for you … Read more

For some hot tubs, the TV isn't everything

At first glance this multimedia spa didn't seem particularly special, especially given its optional 17-inch LCD. After all, we've already seen versions with others with screens as large as 42 and even 61 inches. But Coast Spas is apparently trying to make the case that size isn't everything (at least where the TV is concerned).

The "Extreme Spa" focuses on other features, such as a Sony sound system, Boss controls, DVD player, LED-equipped headrests, underwater lights and even a towel warmer. And it claims to seat eight people comfortably, according to Luxurylaunches, for $16,000. … Read more

The hot tub with a 61-inch LCD

This can safely be categorized as one of those only-in-California items because 1) it requires a hot tub, 2) there's a huge TV involved and 3) it's absolutely ridiculous. Making it even richer, there's competition between two appropriately named companies: CalSpas and Catalina Spas.

The first purveyor was featured awhile back with a 42-inch plasma that rises automatically from the side of the tub. But now we're treated to a competing four-seater from Catalina Spas that boasts--get this--a 61-inch LCD HDTV, according to BornRich. (Both of which dwarf the puny screens we've written about in … Read more

HDTV spa for the consummate host

Well, that was close. We could have spent $8,000 or so for a "Luxor Hydro Massage Bathtub," mostly because of a single feature: the built-in TV. But how selfish of us--what about our guests?

BornRich has solved our entertaining conundrum with the "Infinity Vista TV Spa," which seats six who can enjoy "57 jets, an auto-rising 19-inch Polaroid HDTV, JVC DVD/AM/FM/CD player, four-speaker stereo system, a 10-inch subwoofer with amplifier and LED lighting." Who knew that Costco would become a purveyor of luxury home items? We just hope that they … Read more

Speakers to float your boat

We loved the floating MP3 player showcased recently by fellow Craver Tim Moynihan, despite his rather graphic description of its design (which, we suspect, says more about Tim than the device in question). But it's got some competition in the hypercompetitive aquatic music market.

The "Drop Speaker" from Zumreed has waterproof controls so it can be handled alongside the bath, pool, hot tub or any other venue where you typically splash your electronics. And beyond the unique droplet design (get it?) that conceals an iPod dock insider, Technabob says the speaker comes in blue, white and orange … Read more

Make yourself into stew with a wood-burning hot tub

One step removed from the bubbling cauldron popularized by witches and cannibals, the Portable Wood-Burning Hot Tub is a must for anyone with sore muscles and $6,000 to spare.

The 200-gallon polyester tub heats water through a coil system, using burning wood to heat up the water. The water temperature hits 104 degrees in two and a half hours. There are no jets, but water circulates through the tub through the miracle of convection.

With a 60-inch diameter and a weight of 165 pounds, the tub is only "portable" if you are very strong and have long … Read more
