Toshiba adds another 10-inch tablet to Excite lineup

Toshiba has announced a new addition to its lineup of Excite tablets. The Excite 10 SE tablet comes equipped with a 10.1-inch screen, Android 4.1, and an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.

The tablet starts at $349.99 for the 16GB model and will be available for purchase starting on December 6.

The Excite 10 SE is the third 10.1-inch tablet Toshiba has introduced in its family of tablets this year, although it is the first that runs Android 4.1.

Toshiba has been ambitious in its 2012 lineup of Excite tablets, which at one point included the … Read more

Toshiba Excite tablet reviews: Say hello to the family

Although the Toshiba Excite 10 has already been out since May, the rest of the family is due to be released in just a few days and they're all excited (ha! see what I did there?) to hit the market.

On June 10, the two remaining members of Toshiba's lineup of tablets are due to hit stores. These Wi-Fi-enabled devices all run on Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich and they're powered by Tegra 3, quad-core processors. Oh, and they're also all kind of expensive.

The smallest-size option is the Excite 7.7. Unlike its big … Read more

Toshiba Excite 10 review: Monstrous expandable storage potential

Not two months after its release of the "thinnest and lightest" tablet, the Toshiba 10 LE, Toshiba is back with a new 10-inch tablet: the Toshiba Excite 10.

It's not thinner or lighter than the LE, but the Excite 10 does bring Android 4.0, a Tegra 3 CPU, and 128GB expandable storage option to the table.

That may be enough to outclass the LE, but what about tablets that offer more than just a thin profile? My full review of the Toshiba Excite 10 attempts to find answers.

Toshiba Excite 13: A mammoth, stay-at-home tablet (hands on)

NEW ORLEANS--We heard about the massive 13-inch Toshiba Excite 13 back in April, when we declared the thing too large to really be considered a portable device.

Now that I've seen the so-called tablet in its footlong glory, I can say with complete authority: as a tablet, it's insane; unwieldy and hard to handle.

That's perhaps why Toshiba envisions use cases that more or less keep it within domestic confines -- playing games, propping it on its included stand to use in the kitchen, watching movies in a room without a TV.

Get beyond its size and … Read more

The Toshiba Excite 13 sports the largest tablet screen yet

Tablet screens are evolving. So far in 2012, we've seen the iPad double its resolution to 2048x1536 and the AMOLED-based Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 reach black-level depths that were previously unheard of (but, thankfully becoming more common) on a tablet. So where do we go from here? If Toshiba has its say, we go big.

Today Toshiba introduced the first tablet to break the 10.1-inch barrier. Its new Excite 13 sports a 13.3-inch IPS screen, running at a 1,600x900-pixel resolution and comes installed with Android 4.0.

I got a chance to briefly play around with the tablet a few weeks ago. One might expect a tablet with a 3-inch larger screen to feel a bit light but somewhat heavier than conventional 10-inchers and that's exactly what I found here.… Read more

Toshiba Tegra 3 tablets offer extras we've seen before

With its Excite 10 LE, Toshiba offered a well-designed tablet with disappointing performance, and (in my opinion) too high a price tag for what was offered. With the company's announcement of new 10-, 7.7-, and 13-inch tablets today, it doesn't seem as if much has changed on the pricing front, but at least now it's offering Tegra 3-based devices.… Read more

New iPad ranked top tablet by Consumer Reports

The latest iPad has a new fan, namely Consumer Reports.

Apple's latest tablet scored the highest ratings among its rivals in a report out today from the consumer publication.

The new iPad was commended for its 5-megapixel camera, battery life, and 4G coverage through Verizon Wireless. But it was the high-resolution screen that earned the sharpest praise.

Citing the detail and color accuracy of the Retina Display, Consumer Reports said that the screen "establishes a new benchmark in excellence" and is "the best we've seen" on a tablet. Specifically, the publication found that the … Read more

Toshiba Excite to launch one day ahead of new iPad announcement

Earlier this year at CES, Toshiba told me to expect a first-quarter release for what is now known as the Excite 10 LE tablet, and it looks like it's sticking to that.

On March 6, would-be buyers can purchase the 10.1-inch tablet from select U.S. retailers at prices of $530 for 16GB and $600 for the 32GB version.

Given yesterday's announcement of an Apple iPad event scheduled for March 7, it's difficult to look at the Excite 10 LE's scheduled March 6 release without a curious eye.

I asked Toshiba if yesterday's iPad … Read more

Toshiba's new tablet is thinnest yet, but does its price kill it?

LAS VEGAS--Touting a thin product draws lots of attention and not to be outdone by the Transformer Prime in the svelteness department, on Sunday, Toshiba introduced the thinnest tablet yet, its Excite X10.

Compared with the now previous skinny champion, the Transformer Prime, the Excite X10 is a full 0.6mm thinner, measuring 7.7mm, compared with the Prime's 8.3mm profile. At 1.2 pounds, it's also the lightest tablet to date, coming in at 0.4 pound lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The X10 will come in both 16GB and 32GB varieties, at $… Read more
