After just 2 minutes, tickets for Apple's upcoming annual developers conference in San Francisco are gone.

The show took 2 whole hours to sell out last year. Apple caught many developers by surprise last April when it began selling tickets immediately upon announcing the conference at 5:30 a.m. PT. Apple has released iOS 6.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. Among other fixes and new additions is the ability to purchase movie tickets using Siri, as originally reported back in November.

Siri's new capability requires iOS 6.1, the Fandango app to be installed on the iOS device, and you'll also need to be in the U.S. to purchase tickets.

Siri will get a little smarter with the next version of iOS.

The iOS 6.1 update will give the voice-command feature the ability to order movie tickets through Fandango, according to 9to5Mac.

Users can ask to get movie tickets for a specific film and location, and Siri will bring up a theater and showtime. Users can then click to purchase the tickets, which brings up the Fandango apps to finish out the transaction. If the device doesn't have Fandango, Siri will direct users to a link to download the app.

Passbook has already found one big fan in Major League Baseball.

Still in its initial innings, Apple's new electronic ticketing system scored well in a recent test conducted by MLB. In the final two weeks of the regular season, four teams tried out Passbook. Among 1,500 e-ticket buyers, 12 percent chose to receive their tickets via Apple's service, reports The Wall Street Journal's MarketWatch.

Passbook is a new Apple iOS 6 feature that lets you keep tickets, gift cards, coupons, and loyalty cards on your phone for easy access. The feature is officially only supported in iOS 6. However, a new Android app allows Passbook passes to be used on Android devices.

Redbox, the provider of DVD-rental kiosks, said today that it's now selling tickets to Philadelphia events. The service is available today at certain Philly-area kiosks and online and will roll out to the more than 650 kiosks in that market by mid-October.
