AT&T plans to launch a service that will allow customers to report and block stolen mobile devices.

The service was initially reported by the Verge earlier today.

The service would let a customer block data, voice, and text message access to the phone or tablet but keep their account information in place, avoiding the hassle of creating a new account and SIM card.

Authorities arrested a computer programmer today and charged him with stealing source code worth $9.5 million from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Bo Zhang, 32, is accused of taking the software last summer while he was working as a contract employee assigned to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Zhang allegedly admitted that in July 2011 he checked out and copied the code onto an external hard drive and on to his own computers, according to the complaint unsealed today. He said he used the code in connection with a computer programming training company he operated, … Read more

For one alleged thief, taking someone else's phone put him on that person's Photobucket list. Which led to him being arrested.

The way PC World tells it, 26-year-old Korey Heess, from Salinas, Calif., has a goatee, an earring, and an alleged penchant for taking pictures of himself.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) released its annual list of cities with the most car thefts, and Fresno, Calif., tops the list. In fact, eight cities in the top 10 are in California, with the remaining two in Washington state.

Right behind Fresno are two other Central Valley cities, Modesto and Bakersfield. Sacramento, Stockton, and an area including San Francisco, Oakland, and Fremont also make the list. Spokane, Wash., comes in at No. 4. Surprisingly, Los Angeles is all the way down at 23.

Sometimes, when you lose something, you can gain something too. Sometimes, when you feel someone has wronged you, there might be an avenue down which you can discover a little solace--or even a touch of revenge.

This seems to be the case with Mark Bao and his stolen MacBook Air.

Bao, you see, might have not done well in leaving his laptop in a lounge at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., allowing an opportunist to swipe it earlier this year. However, he had already embedded a little wisdom inside of his machine by installing BackBlaze software.

This, the way CBS News.com tells it, allowed him to enter his laptop remotely and see what might be going on there. Or, indeed, going down.

And what a picture of humanity in the Facebook age was revealed.
