Saab 9-4X Crossover comes to U.S. showrooms

Saab's all-new 9-4X crossover debuted last year at the L.A. Auto Show, and now it is rolling into U.S. showrooms.

Developed with former owner General Motors, the 9-4X crossover was just awarded Top Safety Pick by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Saab, now owned by the Dutch sports car maker Spyker, said that the first 9-4X was purchased last weekend at Saab North Olmstead in Cleveland, Ohio.

Saab: A history in pictures and video

Within the last week, Dutch manufacturer Spyker Cars completed its acquisition of the Swedish Saab brand from General Motors--a deal that's been in the works for quite a while now. And so it seems that Saab has a new lease on life in the automotive world, but exactly what that future is or how it will pan out is a topic of mere speculation. It has been said that often times one must know about the past to understand the future, and with this credo I present today's video--a tribute to the rich history of Saab brand automobiles.… Read more

Saab lives on

Spyker Cars announced today that it finalized a deal with GM to buy the Saab brand, including all intellectual property, facilities, and infrastructure. Spyker will pay GM $74 million for Saab, with $50 million due February 15, and the balance on July 15 of this year. The deal requires Saab to acquire a loan of 400 million Euro, which the Swedish government has already agreed to back.

Spyker Car will change its name to Saab Spyker Automobiles N.V.

This deal caused Saab to halt its winding-down process, and resume plans to produce the new 9-5.

A tribute and a eulogy for Saab

As you probably know by now, General Motors has decided to discontinue producing the Saab brand after failing to make a sell to European manufacturers Spyker and Koenigsegg Group. Whether it's a lack of resources to produce the Saab brand, or just general disinterest in doing so, GM is about to swing the axe on the Saab imprint, and soon there will be no more Saab.

I have never found Saab to be anything to do cartwheels about, but there are many European car aficionados who appreciate the subtle beauty of Saab over the years, and this Web video … Read more

Something to Saab about: GM shuts down European brand

Tonight most of us will be counting down to the birth of the new year, 2010. However, it appears that General Motors will be counting down to the last Saab produced by the company, as it was announced a couple of weeks ago that the automotive manufacturer will be discontinuing the making of the Saab imprint because of its inability to sell the line to prospective European carmakers. As it appears, nothing will be changing on this front prior to the self-imposed deadline of December 31, 2009, and it seems all but certain now that the Saab car and name … Read more

The most beautiful cars in Los Angeles

Sport car companies enjoy the luxury of pushing design to the extreme, putting issues such as passenger comfort and cargo area aside. At the Los Angeles Auto Show we found a selection of new car designs that are as beautiful as they are impractical. Porsche showed up with a convertible that makes it more difficult to lower the top than in its other models. Lotus' newest car may be more accessible than its previous models, but you will still need the moves of a break-dancer to get inside. And the second generation of the Spyker C8 Aileron takes car design … Read more

Spyker will reveal C8 Aileron production model at Geneva auto show

After shopping around the prototype at car shows around the world last year, Dutch automaker Spyker is ready to unveil the production model of the C8 Aileron at the Geneva auto show in March. A topless version of the C8 Aileron has also been promised at the same time.

This video on YouTube.com shows the interior and exterior of the C8 Aileron prototype, but details on the final products are scarce. A Spyker representative said, the vehicle will look similar, but will be a bit more refined and with slightly different packaging. But how much more refined can you … Read more
