I took a power drill to an iPhone at CES

LAS VEGAS--I love power tools. I also love smartphones. Finally, my two passions came together on the show floor of CES 2013. Amzer makes the ShatterProof line of screen protectors for electronic devices. They invited me over to go nuts on an iPhone protected with this thin urethane film.

The available objects of destruction were a power drill and sander. There would have been a hammer, but it had been stolen from the booth. I felt like I was building a set of cabinets rather than testing out a tech item.

Dev-Team shows jailbreak for 2nd-gen Apple TV

The iPhone Dev-Team has been using a tool called Shatter to jailbreak iPhones and iPod Touches running iOS 4.1. It's not in userland yet--meaning, no, it's not ready for you to download and try--but it's a very promising jailbreak. It uses an exploit at a very low level of iOS that they say Apple might not be able to patch easily.

iPod Touch running SHAtter, a beta exploit for iOS 4 devices

The jailbreaking attempts on iOS 4 devices continues as one of the major players, the dev-team, posts a video of a new iPod Touch running a beta version of the latest exploit in iOS 4 called SHAtter.

After the jailbreakme.com exploit was closed by Apple via iOS security update, the dev-team, along with several other hackers, have been hard at work, looking for the next way to break Apple's mobile operating system to allow customized software and apps on iOS devices.
