Why the 2011 iPod Nano is still the sexiest smartwatch of all

After reviewing a handful of the latest and greatest smartwatches, I discovered something shocking. Out of my old electronics drawer I pulled out my iPod Nano, the 2011 clip-on MP3 player that's no longer even sold by Apple. It's attached to a Hex Nano metal watchband. I wore this for over a year, and was so in love with the idea of an Apple smartwatch that I was willing to forgive its limitations -- and that it wasn't really all that smart.

All of these smartwatches have arrived, and I've worn them. Yet, when I slip … Read more

We're taking a three-day weekend to celebrate Independence Day, which means that tomorrow we'll make our annual walk-of-shame to McDonald's for breakfast. So it's only appropriate that today we talk about a Consumer Reports survey that confirms McDonald's as the worst beef-on-a-bun you can buy.

Do we really need sexed-up business laptops?

We've seen a number of redesigned business laptops lately. "Not your father's business laptop." "A business laptop for the cooler set." Whatever you want to call them, these notebooks are defined by thin profiles, sleek bodies, and features more often seen on "consumer" laptops. In other words, they're trying to be business laptops in disguise.

The ThinkPad X1 and ThinkPad Edge E220s. The Dell Vostro V130. The HP ProBook 5330m. All of them are, in their own way, worth considering for nonbusiness users.

Why, then, call them business laptops?

Chrome history enhancement

Sexy Undo Close Tab is a free Google Chrome extension that sounds more alluring than it is. Its attention-getting name apparently loses something in the translation, since "sexy" doesn't immediately spring to mind when describing this useful history file enhancement. Nor exactly does "undo," since this program doesn't really "undo" closed tabs so much as reopen tabs you've previously closed. It saves data on tabs and makes it easier to reopen them, even if they were closed months earlier. We looked at an updated release of this free add-on.

Sexy sells at CES

LAS VEGAS--At last year's CES, we put together a slideshow called "Sexy sells at CES" that highlighted part of the human element that companies use to help make their gadgets stand out on the crowded show floor--or at least encourage people to stop at their booths.

For some reason, this slideshow proved to be rather popular with our readers, so we thought we'd cobble something together this year.

Don't get the wrong impression. Not every company hires models to show off their wares and talk about their products. And even when they do, the product … Read more

Samsung unveils 9 Series, a thin competitor to the MacBook Air

LAS VEGAS--Samsung laptops have caught our eye for more than a year now, with an increasingly impressive design aesthetic and fairly good prices to boot. Today, its announcement of a thin, 13-inch laptop aimed squarely at the MacBook Air-loving crowd seems to indicate a direction in higher-end products, too, and we certainly can't complain.

The 9 Series comes with a second-generation Intel Core i5-2537M CPU, 4GB of DD43 RAM, and a 128GB solid-state drive, along with Windows 7 Professional. The design looks great so far: its metal finish has beautiful curved edges, and Samsung boasts it's the thinnest … Read more

Chinese firms behind 'Sexy Space' Trojan

F-Secure has identified three China-based companies as the creators of the "Sexy Space" Trojan, which was identified last week to have passed through Symbian Foundation's digital-signing process.

XiaMen Jinlonghuatian Technology, ShenZhen ChenGuangWuXian Technology, and XinZhongLi TianJin cloaked the malware, also known as Yxe, and submitted it to the Symbian Foundation under its Express Signing program, security company F-Secure said Wednesday in a statement.

Developers are required to submit mobile applications to the Symbian Foundation for evaluation, before the applications are accepted and enabled for handsets running the Symbian operating system. The apps are first automatically scanned for … Read more

The 404 145: Where Justin is cutting a 7-inch on brown vinyl

After a long, hot weekend, all three of us are happy to be indoors hugging the air conditioner and chatting about all the latest and greatest news from the Internet. This weekend people escaped the heat by checking out The Dark Knight, and the numbers blew our predictions out of the water. Another doozy: dudes in Flint, Mich., are pissed at Police Chief David Dicks cracking down on saggy butts, and Amy Winehouse's boo-bear finally finds a home in prison. We also talk about the Beijing Olympics (sponsored by Singulair) and run down FHM's list of 100 Sexiest … Read more
