With Bada OS, Samsung could be eyeing Smart TVs

Samsung Electronics isn't buying MeeGo, but that doesn't mean there aren't designs on its own mobile OS.

Samsung's Bada operating system for cell phones and smartphones may be relatively unknown in the United States, especially since Samsung has become one of Android's most influential advocates. However, Samsung's plans to open the OS to developers by 2012--according to The Wall Street Journal--hints at its intentions to bring Bada more into the mainstream market.

Microsoft made headlines on the first day of Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona with the announcement of Windows Phone 7, its brand new mobile operating system. It will feature integration with Xbox Live and Zune, with a user interface unlike anything we've seen before. The Windows Mobile name is effectively dead.

Will Samsung's Bada affect Android?

With the announcement of its new Bada operating system, Samsung promises to shake up the mobile OS market in the next few years.

According to a Seoul-based brokerage firm, the cell phone giant plans to gradually abandon its use of Microsoft Windows Mobile OS and increase the number of devices running Android and Bada.

Samsung launching its own mobile OS

In an interesting move, Samsung announced on Tuesday that it will launch its own mobile operating system called Bada in December, giving developers an open platform to create new apps for Samsung's upcoming phones.

The name Bada, which means ocean in Korean, was chosen to represent the "limitless variety" of potential apps that could be created on the platform and its goal is to bring the smartphone experience to everyone.
