Apple's Tim Cook sees his 2012 pay fall 99 percent

Apple CEO Tim Cook received only $4.2 million in compensation this year.

A proxy statement Apple filed today with the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed Cook's base salary as $1.3 million with non-cash compensation making up the rest.

In contrast, Cook was given $378 million in overall compensation last year and $59 million the previous year. But the lower total compensation is all part of a plan.

Google has been found to be the financial sweet spot for software engineers this year, according to a new report from jobs and careers site Glassdoor.

Based on salary reports shared over the past 12 months by software engineers at 15 various tech companies to compare average base salaries, Google was found to have the highest average base salary among the top dogs in technology.

If you think Research In Motion's co-CEOs are hurting for money after taking dramatic pay cuts, think again.

Newly installed Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman is joining a legion of Silicon Valley executives who have agreed to work for a single buck.

Whitman, who took over the helm of the computer maker last week when its board ousted previous CEO Leo Apotheker, will work for a base salary of $1 a year, according to a regulatory filing today. Tapped by Larry Ellison to become a co-president of Oracle, Mark Hurd is poised to earn a base salary of $950,000 per year.

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison will receive a base salary of $1 for fiscal 2010, according to a regulatory document filed Friday.

That's a decrease of $999,999 from last year. But Ellison won't exactly be starving. He is the world's fourth wealthiest person, according to Forbes.

And according to Oracle's filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Ellison's base pay of $1 million in fiscal 2009 only accounted for 1.2 percent of his total compensation anyway. Ninety-seven percent was in the form of stock.
