New Sony Vaio F, S series laptops go upscale

Sony laptops generally tend to be particularly good at being two things: big, high-end media experiences, and small, slim executive powerhouses. The new Vaio F and S series laptops, announced today, offer a bit of both for laptop shoppers willing to spend over $1,000.

The 13.3-inch Vaio S series is only .95 inch thick, and also relatively light: just 3.6 pounds, despite having an optical drive. The closest equivalent we can think of is the Toshiba Portege R835. Sony adds $700 Blu-ray player its ES line

Sony's Blu-ray megachangers may be the big news today, but the company also announced a single-disc high-end Blu-ray player, the BDP-S1000ES ($700, August release date).

It's the least expensive Blu-ray player in the Sony ES ("Elevated Standard") line and comes with a few premium features like integrated 802.11N Wi-Fi, better build quality, and 7.1 analog outputs, along with now-standard features like Profile 2.0 compatibility and onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Kyocera's new look

It's an all new Kyocera at CTIA, as the company commonly known (at least in the United States) for simple, reliable phones does everything it can to show it's not resting on its laurels. Of the company's five new phones, only the S1000 rests on the simple, functional end of the product scale. The other phones, however, feature sleek profiles, stylized keypads and fashion-friendly design. Take the E5000, for example.
