Icon Pop Quiz 1.2.1 Review

Users who know a lot about pop culture may look for a game to test their knowledge. Icon Pop Quiz is well thought out, but its bugs and gameplay are problematic.

Even though it's available for free, Icon Pop Quiz requires coins for certain features, which can be purchased in batches. Despite being available through the Google Play store, the application took a long time to download. While the graphics in the menus were well designed, they were not intuitive. As a result, the lack of any user instructions was a problem. The constant presence of pop-up ads made … Read more

There are more than 190 countries in the world and every one of them has a flag. Designed to quiz you on all 196 flags in its database, the app offers multiple ways to test your knowledge and hear how those country's names are pronounced.

Test your knowledge with Logo Quiz

Very simple controls, a neat interface, and a large database of logos give this app an edge over similar trivia games. Logo Quiz is not only fun to play, but also educational. The only possible downside is the presence of ads.

The front interface of the app gives you four main options: Play, Store, More Games, and Settings. When you go to the Play option, you will be introduced to another interface that shows levels and how many guesses you need to unlock each new level. You start, of course, at level one, where you'll be presented with a … Read more

Test your trivia knowledge with the Logo Quiz app

Random-question quiz games tend to become repetitive and usually have low replay value, but Logo Quiz still manages to deliver a fun and worthwhile trivia experience.

The welcome screen of the app gives options to start the game, peek at your stats, or look at the high scores. As you choose a level in the main game, you will be shown a long set of modified logos. Click on one of them, and you'll be given the chance to type what logo it is. Stars correspond to relative difficulty rate and point value. Progressing through levels isn't that … Read more

Qedoc Quiz Player fail to make the grade

Qedoc Quiz Player works in conjunction with Qedoc Quiz Maker. Its purpose is to play modules, or quizzes, created in the quiz maker program. But we had poor results in testing Qedoc Quiz Maker; in fact, we were unable to create a single quiz to play in Qedoc Quiz Player, so we were unable to test it. However, we'll offer some brief observations.

At first glance, Qedoc Quiz Player's user interface looked simple to navigate, but it's just as vague as its quiz-maker companion. A menu runs across the top of the window with options for opening … Read more

Qedoc Quiz Maker misses the mark

Quizzes are a great way to help students retain the information they learn. Qedoc Quiz Maker offers users a way to create their own custom quizzes. Unfortunately, the program's vague and never-ending user interface made it extremely unappealing to use.

A welcome screen greets you at the start of the program. It gives you options for getting started, but the program has its own language, so the options are vague. In terms of help, the program offers what it calls a "Help system," but when we clicked on it, nothing happened. The Online documentation and support feature … Read more

Are you a moron?

The Moron Test is a smart and snarky game that taunts you with trick questions, memory tests, Simon Says-type instructions, and other brain teasers. The Moron Test doesn't require any specialized knowledge--just patience, attention to detail, and a little bit of creative thinking. A timer tracks your progress through successive levels (from "Bonehead" and "Average Mammal" on up to "Genius"), and any incorrect answer triggers a hearty "FAIL!" and sends you either back to the beginning or to the game's halfway checkpoint.

Overall, this is a fun (if somewhat limited) … Read more

Robobrain vs. humanity: Discuss

On Friday, the Reporters' Roundtable podcast tackles a simple question: what is unique about the human mind? As I write this, IBM's Watson project is doing a respectable job on the game show "Jeopardy." With one game out of three played, the machine is tied against human champion Brad Rutter. Does that mean Watson is as smart as Rutter?

Watch this episode of Reporters' Roundtable live on Friday at noon Pacific time, on CNET Live, at live.cnet.com.

At "Jeopardy," maybe. Or maybe Watson is just a cleverly programmed, pattern-matching supercomputer with an unfair … Read more

Nonsensical quiz maker

In theory, Advanced eLearning Builder allows users to create quizzes, tutorials, and other electronic learning tools. In practice, the program is a confusing jumble of features that left us unable to create even a single page of a quiz.

The program's interface is both unattractive and unintuitive. Users can select from a variety of templates, including those for multiple choice, true/false, and fill in the blank exercises. Although they're not pretty, the templates seem like a nice idea, until you realize that it's seemingly impossible to edit the templates and actually insert your content. We tried … Read more
