Quench laps up $30 million in funding

Philadelphia-based Quench has garnered $30 million in funding for expansion, the company announced Thursday.

Quench makes water coolers with built-in filtration systems that tap into a building's existing water supply instead of using water in five-gallon plastic jugs that need to be regularly delivered and replaced. The company makes free-standing and countertop water coolers and ice makers.

The coolers use a reverse osmosis water filtration system that includes a sediment filter, an antimicrobial filter for killing microorganisms, a carbon filter that removes things like chlorine that might change water flavor, and a lead filter for reducing heavy metal content. … Read more

Trio of Motorola Android handsets headed to Canada

Canadian Google Android fans got more good news this week when Motorola announced a trio of handsets were headed north of the border. The three phones--the Quench (known as the Cliq XT south of the border), Backflip, and Dext (aka the Cliq in the U.S.)--each run Motorola's Motoblur user interface on top of Android. The smartphones are scheduled to arrive sometime within the first half of this year.

Though we don't know which carriers will get the handsets, three major Canadian service providers, Rogers, Bell, and Telus, are mentioned in the official press release.

Motorola Cliq XT/Quench announced for T-Mobile

BARCELONA, Spain--On Monday, Motorola introduced its eighth Google Android device, the Motorola Cliq XT/Quench, at Mobile World Congress 2010. In other parts of the world, the device will go by the name of Quench but in the States, it will be called the Cliq XT and will launch with T-Mobile in March.

As with the original Motorola Cliq, the Cliq XT will use Motoblur software and has a 3.1-inch, 320x480 touch screen with pinch-and-zoom capabilities.
