Sony releases PS3 firmware update to fix last week's fiasco

Sony has released a patch to fix the buggy 4.45 firmware update that left some people with crippled PlayStation 3 consoles.

According to the PS3 forum, users found that after they rebooted, the installation left their consoles "bricked," or frozen, locked, and unplayable.

Sony apologized to its users, pulled the update offline, and promised an investigation, apologizing "for the inconvenience."

Sony has put the kibosh on a new update for the PS3 after that update created bootup problems for many users.

A host of PS3 owners who installed update 4.45 on their consoles have been reporting the trouble on Sony's PlayStation forum since Tuesday. The update, which was designed to let people turn trophy notifications on or off, essentially renders the console unusable. The 12 most exciting games of E3 2013

Where last year's show felt empty, E3 2013 was anything but. Show-goers were treated to a barrage of new software to gawk over, a lot of which are brand-new franchises. Taking into consideration criticism from my past lists, I'll be highlighting only games that featured gameplay of some kind. As long as someone played it at E3, it's fair game. Sorry, trailers and teasers won't cut it this year!

Building the world of The Last of Us

Naughty Dog's series of developer diaries for The Last of Us aren't exactly coming thick and fast (the last one appeared a bit over a month ago), but they certainly are worth the wait.

This video deals with the environments of The Last of Us. The game envisions a setting in which the near-demise of humanity has given nature time to reclaim the world around it. Verdant, lush plant life contrasts with decayed, fallen cities.

The video provides an interesting look at the transition from concept art to gameplay, as well as how the correct use of lighting can help a game seem more real. … Read more
