If Apple designer Jony Ive ruled the world

What's in a look? For some, design can mean the difference between embracing or rejecting a product. Earlier this week Apple unveiled iOS 7, prompting plenty of opinions about the dramatically refreshed look of one of the most-used mobile operating systems in the world.

One of the loudest -- well, visually loudest -- opinions can be found at Jony Ive Redesigns Things, a Tumblr run by designer Sasha Agapov. The visual blog hosts submissions of funny Ive-inspired products and logos from wisecrackers around the world, ranging from a seriously simplified dollar bill to a new look for the Apple logo. See Wes Anderson's 'Star Wars: Episode VII' audition tape

Conan O'Brien recently had a little fun on "Conan" trying to envision what one notable director's interpretation of the recently announced "Star Wars: Episode VII" might look like. The director in question? Wes Anderson. I think you can tell where this one is going...

Han still shoots first! The tongue-in-cheek sketch was posted to YouTube by Team Coco, who comments: "Mos Eisley has never looked so cozy and artisanal." … Read more

Rapping Steve Jobs back to diss rivals in iPad Mini parody

The iPad Mini is not yet even an official reality, but that hasn't stopped satirists from preemptively taking the opportunity to poke fun at Apple and its rivals.

The parody video below from Mondo Media features a woefully unhip and be-fannypacked Tim Cook attempting to sling rhymes and a new slate in such a sad fashion that Steve Jobs literally rolls over in his grave and comes back to do the job himself.… Read more

Facebook's new ad goes down the toilet

Facebook, a company that has so often seemed as if it flies by the seat of its pants, last week released an ad in which it compared itself to chairs.

Which became quite quickly the butt of humor.

Chairs are rather solitary things. It's hard to see how they bring people together.

It's inevitable, then, that someone has made a parody video, elevating this absurdity by sending it down the toilet.

I am grateful to AllThingsD for being seated when it spotted this homage to Facebook's catatonia.

It seems to have been made by a company called … Read more

Watching TV backfires during 'SuriTV' parody

As we well know from that recent video of a surly Scot trying to get Siri to fetch him a jammy dodger, misunderstandings can fast spell disaster during conversations between people and voice recognition software.

Check out this amusing parody by comedic duo Tripp and Tyler that envisions a future with "SuriTV." With rumors circulating regularly about the possible emergence of a real Apple TV, it seems like an appropriate time to imagine the positive and negative aspects of having Siri baked into the boob tube. … Read more

Twitter rebuts Sarkozy censorship allegations

Twitter accounts that were either critical or made fun of French President Nicolas Sarkozy were suspended this past week--causing some to cry censorship. Now Twitter has responded, be it indirectly, by implying that these accounts violated either its parody or spam policy.

This debacle began when Sarkozy created his first Twitter account last week and hours later announced that he was running for re-election. Shortly after, French digital-rights watchdog Internet Without Borders noticed that three accounts, @ForteFrance, @MaFranceForte, and @SarkozyCaSuffit, had been suspended and one account, @_nicolassarkozy, didn't have any new tweets since the president's announcement.

'Psycho Siri': Scariest Siri parody yet?

There have been plenty of Siri parodies, but a new one called "Psycho Siri" is being lauded as one of the best yet.

Made by andrewm films, the short 4-minute video, which carries the one-line synopsis, "An abandoned iPhone turns out to be a killer of a deal," is quickly racking up the hits on YouTube.

It's got some nice special effects and a couple of memorable lines, including:

"I overheard you saying something about you selling me. I'm afraid I can't let that happen."

Creepy. … Read more

iPhone's Siri can't handle surly Scottish man

Inspired by a Los Angeles Times article about Scottish people having trouble with Siri on the iPhone 4S, comedian Gavin McInnes created a parody ad that will have you rolling.

While the "commercial" starts with the familiar soul-searching music and closeup of Siri's interface in a typical Apple advert, it becomes quickly obvious after the first question that this clip is not like those other civilized parodies. McInnes asks some simple questions, but the programmers behind Siri's voice recognition obviously are not prepared for references to "chip butty," "jammy dodger," or "Caledonian 80." The results (below) are hilarious. … Read more

Cello Wars musical parody of 'Star Wars'

This is so cool. A group of musicians calling themselves The Piano Guys released a video of two Jedi playing the theme from "Star Wars" on dueling cellos.

"Why Star Wars Cello? Because of our unending admiration of George Lucas, John Williams, and the most EPIC movies and film score ever created," the guys stated on YouTube. They say they "like to put a new spin on classic stuff and a classic spin on new stuff. It's a must-see video for fans of the space opera.… Read more
