With the same searing beat, ridiculous lyrics, and tongue-in-cheek antics, South Korea's Internet phenomenon Psy is breaking charts again with his new single "Gentleman."

YouTube announced Monday that "Gentleman" is giving "Gangnam Style" a run for its money by setting the record for getting the most views in one day ever. On April 14, "Gentleman" hit more than 38 million views. And, after only being up for about a week, the video has a total of nearly 204 million views.

T-Mobile changing the contract game

CNET Update will pay you Tuesday for a smartphone today:

Google Reader is shutting down in July, and its demise can impact citizens who have Internet access restricted by their government. The Change.org petition to keep Google Reader has about 12 percent of its signatures from people living in countries that have Internet censorship. People in Kazakhstan and China have left comments urging Google to keep the Reader tool because it's the best way to access banned websites and uncensored news.

Artists use real-time MRI footage to create music video

Some see, not to mention make, art in unusual places. And so it is with U.K.-based musician Sivu, who is letting viewers peer inside his mind while he sings -- literally.

Reportedly inspired by the work being done on children born with cleft lips and palates at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London, Sivu lay in an MRI scanner for almost three hours and sang his new single, "Better Man Than He," repeatedly. The resulting music video is an edit of that footage, relying on nothing but the relatively new real-time medical imaging technique often used … Read more

YouTube said to be investing cash in Vevo

Word has it that YouTube is looking to throw some cash in the direction of the music video site Vevo, according to AllThingsD. If these rumors are true, it shows that YouTube is increasingly moving toward the content market.

YouTube was supposedly courting Vevo last May and is now reportedly ready to make an investment, according to AllThingsD. If indeed the video giant does partner with Vevo, the way consumers view content on the site will supposedly stay the same -- which means watching big label music videos for free.

Vevo was tallied as the third most-watched video site in … Read more

Ohio State marching band plays game tribute at halftime

I've always said that if there is ever a time to talk about video games, it's at a college football game. Of course, I'm almost always wrong about these kinds of things. But not this time! I've finally been validated in the form of a halftime show marching band. Check it out.

If you missed it, make sure to watch the running horse at 6:01 -- simply incredible! The sweet tribute to gaming was posted by YouTube user handmrow gobucks, who writes: … Read more

Klingon Style: Guts, glory, blood, and Korean pop music

When Korean pop star Psy unleashed the eye- and ear-grabbing video for "Gangnam Style" on the Internet, he probably didn't expect it to be remade by a crew of aliens and Starfleet personnel. Even better, the song has been translated into the Klingon language. HIja'!

The music video is also a celebration of the 25th anniversary of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Watch out for cameo appearances from Data, Counselor Troi, and Commander Riker. Guinan shakes it down in the infamous elevator scene.… Read more

Nokia Lumia shows off new camera tricks

Wednesday's tech news roundup cures the colorful phone shakes:

Nokia revealed new Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8. The Lumia 920 comes in red and yellow and the camera has "floating lens" technology, meaning it helps stabilize shaky movements and allows the shutter to stay open longer for more light to enter. It also has photo editing tools that remove someone walking by your picture, or you can animate part of a still photo as a cinemagraph. (Check out these examples.) It also has a charging station, so it doesn't need cords. The JBL Power Up … Read more

Facebook in talks to replace YouTube as Vevo's host

Facebook has held talks with Vevo about moving the music-video service away from YouTube and over to the social network's platform, sources with knowledge of the talks told CNET.

While the sources said the discussions are very preliminary and noted that there's still another year remaining on Vevo's contract with YouTube, meetings have occurred between Vevo and Facebook at least twice. The most recent talks took place within the past two weeks, the sources said.

Facebook is interested in a similar arrangement to the one Vevo has now with Google's YouTube. Facebook would stream Vevo's … Read more
