Top of the muffin to you

At the risk of sounding as old as I am, do you remember that "Seinfeld" episode where Elaine decided to create a bakery that sold only the top part of the muffin? They baked muffins, cut the tops off to sell, then debated what to do with the leftovers. Eventually, she donated them to a homeless shelter and was told in no uncertain terms that the homeless had no interest in her rejected muffin bottoms.

If she had just used this muffin crown pan from Norpro, she could have avoided the whole messy confrontation.

For better pancakes, a batter gun

It's not actually a weapon, though it does have a trigger: This Batter Dispenser ($30) from Williams-Sonoma promises to neatly distribute perfect blobs of batter onto a hot griddle or waffle iron. You can choose among three different sizes of pancakes, and the catalog copy claims that even batters with small berries or chocolate chips will easily flow through the valve. Most importantly, the plastic device is dishwasher safe.

The Batter Dispenser was singled out for ridicule on the organization blog Unclutterer, the author of which suspects its primary role will be taking up valuable space in your kitchen. … Read more

MuleCon Muffins--food matters at developer events

Our big MuleCon user event started yesterday and continues today, capped off with a Developer Campground that we are hosting with all of the worldwide Mule team attending and answering questions.

I just can't repress my love … Read more

Bugatti roars into the toaster business

Forget about phones and MP3 players--the next designer gadget is the toaster. And leading the way to branded nirvana are, of all things, sportscar dynasties.

Porsche joined the fray with a brushed-aluminum model that looks good enough for the track, and now Bugatti has gotten into the act with an appliance of its own. True to its exacting nature, Bugatti has included "six browning-control options" for its "Volo" toaster, Gadgetizer says, with especially wide slots to accommodate different sizes of baked goods. But it's the red Italian flair that drew us to it, of course.… Read more

Yes, it's a toaster amp

Every once in awhile, Crave comes across an item that fulfills our mission in life. What, after all, could a gadget blog want more than a photo of a toaster turned into a guitar amp?

Thanks to "Hottie Amplifiers," we need look no further. These musical accoutrements, which Red Ferret says sell for $150, are made of the vintage twin-slot toasters of our youth. (Back in the days when toasters actually lasted more than a few months--yes, boys and girls, it's true.)

The only thing we wish it included was a USB connection. That way, we could … Read more
