Review: QR Photo to iPhone MP4 Converter generates iPhone slideshow videos

QR Photo to iPhone MP4 Converter will take your digital photos and create a video that can be played back on your iPhone or other MP4-capable portable device. The resulting videos are of a decent quality and size, though the process of creating them can be cumbersome due to a roughly-designed interface and not-always clearly-labeled options in the software.

When you first open QR converter, you can choose a selection of images for use in your video. These images can then be edited in a number of ways. From adding transitions between frames, to adding soundtracks, panning and zooming on … Read more

Review: QR Photo to iPod MP4 Converter creates slideshows with your images

QR Photo to iPod MP4 Converter is an effective tool but has some issues in terms of interface and conversion speed. While it allows you to effectively convert any of your images to MP4 videos, complete with soundtracks, transition effects, and pan/zoom options, the interface and tools used to do so are cumbersome and time consuming to sort through.

After installing QR Photo to iPod MP4 Converter, which was relatively quick and required no additional installations, we were able to start moving photos into the tracks for conversion. The process of finding the images and adding them to a … Read more

Review: MP4Tools provides useful tools for processing MP4 files

MP4Tools for Mac aims to provide users with a number of capable tools for easy video editing and processing. Even though the menu seems rather difficult to interpret, the program proves to be a good application for processing video files.

At almost 49MB, this download takes a bit longer to complete. While the program is available with all of its functions for free, eliminating a pop-up dialog box and unlocking batch processing requires a $5.99 payment. After starting up quickly, MP4Tools for Mac's main menu is basic and lacks any graphics or user aids. A bar along the … Read more

Review: Rip DVDs to your hard drive for backup with Mp4DVD for Mac

Those with large DVD collections may want a program to back them up on their computer hard drives. If so, you'll pass on Mp4DVD for Mac, which didn't work well for us.

Available as freeware, Mp4DVD for Mac downloaded quickly and installation did not require any user interaction. It also didn't include any user instruction, and technical support did not appear to be available. Fortunately, the user interface was easy to use, albeit dated. The program asks the user to drag and drop a DVD icon into it for ripping. There are no options available for file … Read more

VidConvert for Mac 1.4.2 Review

The number of video conversion programs available makes choosing a good one difficult. Though it's basically functional, the lack of features and problematic setup make VidConvert for Mac a less desirable option.

VidConvert is available as a free trial version with a three-minute conversion time limit; the full, unrestricted program requires payment of $7.99. The program installs quickly. Unfortunately, after initiating the program, the user must complete an additional download from a separate site before conversion can take place. This second download requires Terminal operations, which is a lot to ask of all but the most experienced Mac … Read more

Total Video Player plays most files, and it's free

Total Video Player is a free media player that can play most of the video and audio files most people need to be able to play, as well as CDs and DVDs. It's compact and doesn't require extra codecs, though if there's a type of file you need to play and TVP doesn't play it, you're better off with one of the open source players that can play any file type. What TVP has to offer over those others is simplicity: It's easy to set up and use, though it's not stripped-down or … Read more

Analysts: iPad 4's graphics upgrade packs a punch

At its silicon core, the fourth-generation iPad is hardly an incremental upgrade, according to chip analysts.

The new iPad's A6X chip packs a brand-new graphics engine that boasts a serious step up in horsepower from the third-generation iPad's A5X.

"Nothing's incremental about this. The A6X is one massive processing machine," Jim Morrison, a product manager at Chipworks, which does reverse engineering and patent-infringement analysis of semiconductors and electronic systems, told CNET.

Chipworks posted an analysis of the A6X's circuit layout today.

Apple's newest chip is a full 30 percent larger than the A6 … Read more

Create your own DVDs with AVI to DVD Converter

It's one thing to burn a DVD disc and another to create a DVD that anyone can pop into a tray and play. For making DVDs out of your videos, Xilisoft's AVI to DVD Converter is a good place to start.
