Tweet with Morse code light signals

How do you tweet in Morse code? Using Arduino and antique signal lamps, it turns out.

Thanks to students from the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design, you can now see what "I just washed my face and brushed my teeth. #Monday" looks like when expressed via old maritime communications technology.

The students' #CPHsignals "Morse code light signal installation" transmits signals between two Copenhagen, Denmark, neighborhoods, Nyhavn and Chavn. Visitors can tweet messages using iPads attached to antique signal lamps on either side of the harbor or from anywhere using a @reply to @signals_nyhavn and @signals_CHavn.

An Arduino interface translates the tweets into Morse code and broadcasts them across the water (in what happens to be a very pretty light show at night, it's worth noting). So far, conversations between the two sides of the harbor have proven pretty tame, with lots of friendly greetings exchanged and no "man overboard" crises reported yet. … Read more

With Twitter Peek getting the ax, you're probably wondering, "Now what will I use to post my tweets?" How about the Tworse Key?

Yes, forget your smartphone, tablet, and laptop. The telegraph key is the wave of the future for sending tweets via Morse code. We jest, of course, but this hack is seriously one of the coolest things we've ever seen.

Tworse Key is the brainchild of Martin Kaltenbrunner, who submitted this amazing project to Hack A Day. Yahoo employees eying the exit door?

As Yahoo's board and executive team consider a growing number of acquisition bids, the company's employees are considering other opportunities, a new report claims.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal in a story published today, several unnamed Yahoo employees say that morale is on the decline at the company, causing many folks to think seriously about going elsewhere.

The text of Yahoo's announcement of a management reorganization that saw Tim Morse replacing Carol Bartz as CEO.

Yahoo's Bartz out as chief executive

The Carol Bartz era at Yahoo has ended.

Bartz, named Yahoo chief executive in January 2009, is no longer in the job. In a note sent to Yahoo employees this afternoon, Bartz noted that the board fired her.

"I am very sad to tell you that I've just been fired over the phone by Yahoo's chairman of the board," Bartz wrote. "It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward."

Yahoo names Altera's Morse as CFO

Yahoo has found a new chief financial officer, naming Tim Morse to replace the recently departed Blake Jorgensen.

Morse, 40, comes to Yahoo from Altera, the Silicon Valley chip company, where he was senior vice president and chief financial officer. He's perhaps the most high-profile hire to date for new CEO Carol Bartz, who asked Jorgensen to leave in February but has kept him on the job while she searched for his replacement.

We always suspected that Tokyoflash was run by a bunch of sadists who intentionally create watches that are impossible for us to read. And now our theory has been confirmed: Doing away with any pretense, they've come up with one that requires a secret code to use.
