MOG founder David Hyman stepping down as CEO

David Hyman, the founder of music service MOG, stepped down abruptly today as CEO of the company that he sold earlier this year to Beats.

Executives at Beats, the company best associated with the popular headphones, said in March after acquiring MOG, that Hyman would stay on and help oversee the music service.

But sources close to the company who spoke to CNET said Beats told staff that Hyman's departure was effective immediately. Hyman is the former CEO of Gracenote and an MTV exec.

Cloud games mean sweet streams for Sony

Beats finally announces deal to acquire MOG

Beats Electronics, the headphones and audio-software maker, has finally confirmed that it has acquired MOG.

The companies revealed the news to USA Today this morning, confirming CNET's report last week, saying that the firms would be inking a deal quite soon. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and both companies balked when asked how MOG, which provides over 15 million songs for users to stream, might be integrated into Beats.

Beats finally set to announce acquisition of MOG

Beats, the maker of the high-end headphones that have become a status symbol, is finally ready to disclose that it is acquiring digital music service MOG, according to sources familiar with the deal.

The deal could be announced any day, the sources said. Financial terms weren't available.

CNET first reported that MOG was for sale in February and AllThingsD reported three weeks later that Beats was amid an acquisition of the service, which had been a back-of-the-pack subscription music service for years.

Ford adds Mog streaming music to Sync AppLink roster

Ford owners can now count Mog among the apps available through Sync AppLink in their cars, letting them stream music from customized playlists or artist-based channels. Using the new feature will require a Ford model with the latest version of Sync AppLink installed and a subscription to Mog. According to the release, the Mog integration currently only works on iPhones connected to the car with a cable.

The MOG implementation will let drivers listen to a random selection of songs from a single artist, or they can broaden the selection using the car's tuning knob to include similar artists. … Read more

Beats Electronics has a plan and it's much bigger than Mog

If Beats Electronics acquires Mog, the maker of the popular headphones has plans that go way beyond subscription music.

CNET broke the news three weeks ago that Mog, an also-ran subscription music service, was for sale and AllThingsD yesterday reported that Beats intends to acquire Mog, but the deal has yet to close.

A Mog spokesperson did not respond to an interview request. A Beats representative wasn't immediately available.
