Okay, okay, I'll get an iPhone 3G!

My very first meaningful blog post here (after an introduction), from June 23, 2007, was titled "Why I'm not getting an iPhone".

Let me review my reasons at the time:

The original iPhone couldn't really do any more for me than my Palm Treo 650. The iPhone couldn't be used to connect my laptop to the Internet. No voice-memo support. No 3G networking. Not enough storage capacity. No native apps from third-party developers. No high-res screen.

Okay, what's changed?

Well, the iPhone 3G still… Read more

Mobiado phone gets a touch of Midas

There are two things that have distinguished Mobiado among the many luxury phone makers of the world: First, it's from Canada; second, its handsets have avoided the type of excessive bling that others have so readily succumbed to in the desperate quest to draw attention to themselves.

But no one is immune to the pressures of competition, and Mobiado is taking some steps along this gilded path as well. The rather clinically named Professional 105 GCB features 24k-gold plating--right down to the screws and buttons, according to Unwired View--while its "Executive Model" is adding phones encased in … Read more

Mobiado slims down latest luxury handset

It's kind of disappointing that Mobiado has resorted to the old "world's thinnest" ploy, because this handset maker has a lot more things to trumpet than its waistline. From the time we first saw its "Luminoso" model to the "Professional Camo" edition earlier this month, we've always been intrigued by its unique designs--not an easy feat in an industry when everyone is trying just about anything to get noticed.

Regardless of whether it's really "the world's thinnest luxury phone" at 10.6 millimeters thick, the 105 ZAFRead more

Luxury phone's camo theme is a little ironic

So many cell phones look alike these days, but here's one that will definitely get noticed if you're an attention-starved millionaire. It didn't seem possible that luxury handset maker Mobiado could get more exclusive than its "Stealth" and "Luminoso" phones, but it's done just that with the "Professional Camo."

Like its predecessors this handset is made from aircraft aluminum and stainless-steel keys for less weight and more durability, but the Camo is noticeably different because of its hand-painted camouflage design. It looks even more unusual because the metal casing is … Read more

Mobiado's 'Stealth' phone flies under the radar

All too often Crave sees head-turning products that immediately activate our salivary glands, only to disappear forever. So we're always pleased when we hear of one that survived and is on its way to future generations, such as the Mobiado luxury phone.

We first became aware of the company's products exactly a year ago, when we were taken with its stunning "Luminoso" mobile handset. Now Mobiado has followed that model with the limited-edition "Stealth," a 3G phone that's also packed with high-end materials and features, such as sapphire crystal buttons and surround-sound speakers.… Read more

Luxury phone's keypad is guiding light

With new phones coming out daily, it's rare to see one that stands apart significantly from the crowd. Mobiado's "Luminoso" does just that but, to truly appreciate its uniqueness, you may want to turn out the lights.

The most striking feature of the handset is, of all things, its buttons. Made of sapphire and stainless steel, they are highlighted in a "dual illumination technique that lights the keypad area from beneath and above," according to the luxury phone maker's site. The 3G handset is also packed with features inside, including a 2-megapixel camera … Read more
