McAfee All Access 2013 Review

Now owned by Intel, McAfee All Access is a professional-grade personal computer security suite that comes with apps for Mac and Android. It's the premium security product from McAfee, but while its features are top-notch, its competitors do better at security-efficacy benchmarking.

Installation McAfee All Access doesn't have the fastest installation around, but it's not horrifically slow. From download to ready-to-use, the entire process took about six and a half minutes. By contrast, Symantec's Norton goes 0 to 60 in less than a minute.

McAfee appears to have fixed the suite's problems with oversensitivity toward … Read more

John McAfee brings his 'Where's Waldo' act to Portland

Last time we checked, John McAfee was on the lam from, well, whoever it was that he said was after him in Belize. But the former software mogul, who was deported to the United States after fleeing to Guatemala, has decided to pitch his tent in Portland, Ore., for a while. (Assuming, of course, that he's not yanking the media's chain for kicks and giggles.)

Willamette Week snagged an interview this week with McAfee, who said he was "looking for a home here and plans to live in Portland for the next year and a half while … Read more

Guatemala to deport McAfee to U.S., says report

After weeks of running from authorities in Belize, tech businessman turned fugitive John McAfee will come back to the United States, Reuters reported today.

Update, 4:30 p.m. PT: McAfee has landed in the U.S., according to the Associated Press.

McAfee was detained in Guatemala last week after illegally crossing over the border from Belize, and the Guatemalan government has decided to deport him to the U.S., an immigration official told Reuters.

McAfee told Bloomberg TV that he was "being expelled" from Guatemala and was headed to Miami.

A judge reportedly approved McAfee's release on Tuesday, … Read more

John McAfee blogs on the run

John McAfee just might be the worst over-sharer on the Internet.

Living as an expat in Belize, the founder of the ubiquitous antivirus software hasn't been an active figure in the tech industry for years. But when his neighbor was found murdered in November, he came back on the scene in a truly bizarre way.

Wanted for questioning by local police, McAfee went on the lam. In an odd turn, he began publishing regular updates and pictures to his blog declaring his innocence, making claims of government persecution, describing his disguises, and explaining the nature of his relationship with … Read more

Manhunt for John McAfee comes to an end (week in review)

The weeks-long hunt for software pioneer turned fugitive John McAfee ended this week with his arrest in Guatemala.

McAfee, who was sought by police in connection with a shooting in Belize, was arrested by Guatemalan police for allegedly entering the country illegally. The 67-year-old founder of the company that bears his name apparently entered Guatemala to seek asylum from officials in Belize, who have been pursuing him for the past few weeks in connection with the shooting death of his neighbor.

The Guatemalan government denied the asylum request of the tech-entrepreneur-turned-fugitive yesterday, opening the door for the eccentric millionaire's … Read more
