Addressing mailbox access errors in OS X Mail

Apple's Mail program in OS X for the most part offers a quick and basic approach to e-mail, but occasionally you may run into problems such as not being able to access messages, whether you get error messages or simply can't locate them.

Similarly to OS X's Spotlight search feature, Mail uses an index to show the available e-mail messages that have been downloaded to the program, listing information such as subject, sender, and whether messages have been read and linking this information with the respective message file.

Mailbox e-mail app signs up 1 million users

Dropbox's Mailbox app for iOS has just picked up its 1 millionth user.

The free app hit the iTunes store on February 7, where iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users can download it. But access to the actual service has been doled out on a first-come, first-served basis via a reservation system.

As of yesterday, 1 million of those reservations have been filled, according to a blog from the Mailbox team. But there are still a fair number of people in line.

Tackle IMAP e-mail not being stored on server

Apple's Mail e-mail client supports a number of different messaging protocols including POP and IMAP, but if you convert an existing account from POP to IMAP then you may run into a problem in which e-mails are longer saved on the server.

Dropbox buys popular e-mail app Mailbox

Dropbox has acquired the popular e-mail app Mailbox, the two companies announced today in separate blog posts.

The team behind Mailbox wrote that the app -- which delivers Gmail messages to the iPhone or iPod Touch -- will remain, but it needs a company like Dropbox to help it grow. It wants to add more e-mail providers and build apps for more devices, but the 14-person company doesn't have the staff to do those things.

Mailbox wants you to ditch the traditional labels method implemented by Gmail users everywhere. 'Star Trek' mailbox glows at night

Reddit user ModXMV has one cool uncle. ModXMV posted a pic of the uncle's creation, a DIY "Star Trek" mailbox dubbed the NCC-USPS.

In my imagination, the uncle is actually a Scottish engineer in a red shirt.

The project consists of a standard mailbox with an original-style Enterprise docked above it. This would be right at home outside of William Shatner's mansion.

Among the announcements when Apple released iOS 5, a couple of downloadable apps became available at the iTunes App Store. One of them, Cards, lets you create fold-in-the-middle greeting cards on your iPhone, then Apple sends them on real paper via snail mail.
