Fitbug Orb, Luv, and Wow Bluetooth health gear on its way

LAS VEGAS--Fitness gear and wearable tech are one of the burgeoning trends of this year's CES, and Fitbug was at the CES Unveiled press event previewing scale, heart rate, and blood-pressure monitoring gadgets.

The Fitbug Orb is a $49 wearable device with both clip-on and watchband attachments, competing in an increasingly crowded space. It uses the same technology and infrastructure as Fitbug's other wearable tech including the Fitbug Air, and works with the iPhone 5, 4S, fifth-gen iPod Touch, third-gen iPads and higher, and the Samsung Galaxy S3. Bonus: it has an "underwear clip" for discrete … Read more

iLuv ships Mo'Beats portable stereo Bluetooth speaker stand

Though it's listed as out of stock on its own Web site, iLuv tells me that it's begun shipping its Mo'Beats iSP245 portable stereo Bluetooth speaker stand.

Since it uses Bluetooth for wireless audio streaming, you can use the Mo'Beats with any Bluetooth-enabled tablet, smartphone, or laptop, though it's more ideally suited for tablets. It has a built-in rechargeable battery for mobile use and there's an auxiliary input to connect non Bluetooth-enabled devices.

iLuv's highlighting the product's "cradle" design, which allows for either landscape or portrait viewing "while accommodating … Read more

iLuv's slightly different take on a Kindle Fire case

Companies send over samples for various accessories, and I try to highlight some of the better ones for various devices. Case in point: iLuv's Portfolio Stand for Kindle Fire.

It's a nice, trim case that fits snuggly and turns into a stand by unhitching the Fire from the bottom of the case. It's a design we've seen before with iPad cases, and it works better than you'd think.

Drawbacks: this one isn't made of leather (it is very good faux leather, however) and it's fairly expensive at $49.99 (though it can be … Read more

Wallet/iPhone case hybrids: Callet vs. Tuff-Luv In-Genius

A new breed of iPhone case could prove extremely convenient--or burden you as effectively as it protects your gadget.

Wallet/iPhone case hybrids look to cocoon your smartphone while providing a place to store your cash, credit cards, and ID. Obviously, the idea is that you'll no longer have to carry both a wallet and your phone in your overburdened pockets if you combine the two.

That convenience comes with a risk, though, since keeping all your eggs in one basket is only sensible if you make sure you never lose the basket.

Two manufacturers developing early players in the wallet cases pitch offered up their products for a cursory look. The Callet is simply a soft rubber iPhone condom (sorry...) with two pockets molded into the back. For $20, it offers basic but adequate protection with a tactile surface that prevents you from dropping the phone while keeping your cards and money tucked in sticky place.

The only potential structural problem might arise with prolonged use, as the thin rubber will wear. It might be best to use the Callet only on occasions when you'd like to be less weighed down or you're dressing lighter. … Read more

iLuv iSP110 review: Is this speaker case worth $15?

Not much bigger than a sunglasses case, the iSP110 from iLuv is a portable speaker that can play music from any device with a 1/8-inch headphone jack. We were just able to cram our HTC Evo with an extended battery inside, so it's safe to say most smartphones, iPods, and similarly sized devices can fit as well.

Because of its small size, we found the iSP110 to be great for occasions where normal portable speakers just aren't practical. For this reason, the iLuv is a great companion at the beach or on the golf course. If the … Read more

Why I never used my iPad to replace my laptop at E3: A review of iLuv's keyboard case for the iPad

I'm long overdue on a promise I made before I left for the E3 Expo over a month ago. As I packed my bags, I said I'd take iLuv's new keyboard case for the iPad with me, and see if I'd end up using my iPad 2 plus a keyboard more than I used my laptop to write. Pitted against the keyboarded iPad 2: a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E220s.

In short: the laptop won.

That's probably not much of a surprise. E3 is mission-critical time for writing quick posts and editing on the fly between … Read more

My E3 travel test: iLuv's leather iPad 2 keyboard case

Can iPads replace laptops in mission-critical, hot-and-sweaty environments? My colleague Dan Ackerman gave it a go at last year's E3, and I'm giving it a try as I head to L.A. this year with a keyboard-case twist, using iLuv's new leather folio. (I'll also have a laptop backup plan.)

iLuv's iMM747 parks both iPad and iPhone

Now that the iPad's been around for almost six months, we're starting to see a few docks that are designed for parking--and listening--to iPads. iLuv's iMM747, which also accepts iPhones and iPods, is a mini stereo system that will retail for $149.99 when it goes on sale in a few weeks at i-luv.com.

Since the iPad is much heavier than the iPhone, the iMM747 features "flexible dock connectors for solid support and easy docking through the 30-pin connector that automatically adjusts and supports your iPad, iPhone, or iPod while in the dock," according … Read more

Japan's Mouse Computer is hoping for some love with a 10-inch tablet that runs Android 2.2 on an Nvidia Tegra 250 chipset.
