Yahoo to live-stream Rolling Stones concert for $40 a pop

Rolling Stones fans may find they can get what they want after all, namely a live stream of the group's upcoming 50th anniversary concert.

Streamed by Yahoo and entertainment company WWE, the pay-per-view special will be shown on Saturday, December 15, at 6 p.m. PT via Yahoo Music. Dubbed "One More Shot: The Rolling Stones Live," the concert will be the latest in a series of events marking this year's 50th anniversary of the group's debut.

Ustream's BFF app live broadcasts to Facebook

Streaming company Ustream announced today that it is bringing live video to Facebook's news feed, according to The Verge.

The streaming will come via a new mobile app called BFF. No, it doesn't stand for Best Friends Forever, it means Broadcast For Friends. NBC Sports and Adobe Systems have teamed up to give fans two apps that stream the Olympics live on mobile devices, record footage for playback, and share the experience through social media.

The apps -- a live-streaming app for the more than 3,500 hours of content, and a companion app loaded with additional content launched today. OnLive's Desktop Plus service turns your tablet into a virtual Windows 7 PC. The app-based service rolled out to iPad customers last week, and today made the jump to Android tablets.

The Desktop Plus app is a free download, though the service costs $4.99 per month. For the price, you get a full Windows 7 desktop hosted remotely on OnLive's servers and connected to the Web over a Gigabit Ethernet connection. NPR, Ford sync up with AppLink technology (live blog)

LAS VEGAS--In a joint CES press conference today, Ford Motor and NPR announced that streaming news is coming "straight to the dashboard."

NPR's new app will work with Ford's in-car control system, Sync AppLink, even those without a touch-screen interface, and is intended to be less distracting to the driver as it's based on voice command. Users can set favorite stations and programs in the app to be browsed later using the car's steering wheel controls. Apps are available immediately in the Android Market and iTunes App Store.

YouTube opens up live streaming to partners

YouTube today is flipping on the switch to let some of its users stream videos live.

The move marks a big shift in the functionality of the video-hosting service, which up until now has been designed to let users upload videos they've already taken. Under the new system, they can simply hit a button and be streaming video live to other users.

In a post today announcing the feature, the company said the new live feature is only being rolled out to a select group of users, specifically YouTube partners.

Vizio, OnLive may be prepping video-streaming services

Netflix might soon have more company in the video-streaming space.

According to The Wall Street Journal, HDTV maker Vizio and video game delivery company OnLive are planning their own streaming services to compete with Netflix's offering.

The publication is reporting that Vizio has "expressed interest" in providing consumers with video content via a subscription service like Netflix's option. The publication cited "people familiar with the talks," but was unable to get Vizio to confirm the report.
