2013 Infiniti JX luxury crossover begins production

Production of the 2013 Infiniti JX, which offers the first backup collision intervention (BCI) system, is now in full swing in Nissan's Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant in Tennessee.

The 2013 JX gets 21 mpg and 20 mpg for the front-wheel-drive and intuitive all-wheel-drive models, respectively. The BCI system warns the driver if an obstacle is detected; the system gives visual and audible cues. It can also step in and automatically apply the brakes to help avoid a potential impact, Nissan said in a press release.

In another first, the seven-passenger JX offers a multimode middle-seat design that makes it … Read more

The CVT comes to the Infiniti brand beneath the 2013 JX35

LOS ANGELES--The JX crossover that took a bow here at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show is a platform for a few firsts for the Infiniti brand.

It's the first model with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the first implementation of the automaker's Backup Collision Intervention system, and the first model to incorporate the styling cues that debuted on the Infiniti Essence concept.

The JX35 will be the first model in the JX series and will be powered by a 265-horsepower version of Infiniti 3.5-liter workhorse V-6. That engine will send 248 pound-feet of torque through a … Read more

Inifiniti teases the JX crossover on Facebook

Infiniti is giving its Facebook fans an early look at the upcoming JX crossover weeks before the official reveal.

The luxury seven-seater crossover will have its official debut at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 18. To build anticipation, the auto manufacturer is publishing a new photo each Thursday on its fan page. The Facebook page also includes a chance to win a trip for two to Pebble Beach for the big reveal.

Larger than the EX35 and FX35 crossovers, but smaller than the full-size Infiniti QX, the three-row crossover should compete with such vehicles as the Audi Q7. Parent company Nissan expects the crossover to be a large-volume production vehicle, and it will be produced at the Smyrna, Tenn. plant.

The production version of the JX will debut at the 2011 Lost Angeles Auto Show in November, and the 2013 model of the crossover will go on sale some time next spring. … Read more

Infiniti announces 3-row JX crossover

The 2011 New York International Auto Show starts tomorrow, but Infiniti is already looking forward to the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, where it will be unveiling the 2013 Infiniti JX, a larger sibling to its EX and FX crossovers.

Until the concept is unveiled, all we have is the sketch above and a few tidbits teased by the automaker. The large crossover slots in just below the full-size Infiniti QX and will have three rows of seats with room for seven passengers. Externally, the design language that featured prominently on the Infiniti Essence concept car should be stretched … Read more

Fujifilm makes three midseason camera replacements

Like failed sitcoms canceled halfway through a season, Fujifilm is giving the ax to three of its cameras from the first half of 2010. Fujifilm is replacing the FinePix Z700EXR, S1800, and JX250 that it announced February 1 with the Z800EXR, S2800HD, and JX280, respectively. I didn't review the three outgoing models, so I can't say if there was anything necessarily wrong with them. It seems Fujifilm just wanted to retool the models with some new features.

For example, the Z800EXR has a new version of the company's 12-megapixel Super CCD EXR sensor that has a high-speed hybrid autofocus system. Using both Contrast AF and Phase Detection AF, the camera is able to measure the amount of light or contrast in the scene and pick the AF system that will focus the fastest. Also added is improved image stabilization so there's less need to use higher ISOs when using the 5x zoom lens or in low-light conditions. Now it can take panorama shots at 180, 240, or 360 degrees with a sweep of the camera. It retains the prior versions full-metal body and 460K-pixel, 3.5-inch touch screen, too. The FinePix Z800EXR will be available in late August 2010 at a retail price of $229.95, which is really cheap.… Read more

Fujifilm redesigns its J-series point-and-shoots

With four models priced from $129.95 to $249.95, there's a lot of upselling going on with Fujifilm's latest J-series cameras. The ultracompacts have some common features, though, such as all-metal bodies, the company's Tracking Auto Focus system, face detection, and the capability to capture video at 720p HD quality.

The JV100 is basically an entry-level ultracompact with a rechargeable battery, which is all that separates it from the manufacturer's AV100. Likewise, the JX250 is separated from the AX200 by a rechargeable battery and a 14-megapixel sensor.

If the JX250's 5x zoom lens isn't enough, you can step up to the 10x zoom lens on the 12-megapixel FinePix JZ300 and 14-megapixel JZ500. Other than resolution, the JZ500 gets Pet Detection (the camera can detect and prioritize focus on cats and dogs) and Face Recognition, which lets you attach basic information to a photo of a person's face for prioritizing focus when you take pictures of that person later as well as for tagging for easier organization.
