Man who says 'Glee' ripped him off rips off 'Glee' rip-off

When people steal your jokes, your haircut, or your music, the instinct is to fight back.

It's hard, sometimes, to know how. Anger can be so bestial.

But as Kotaku reports, Jonathan Coulton seems to have lighted on an excellent wheeze. … Read more

'Glee' accused of ripping off indy YouTube singer

"That's mine!"

"No, it isn't! It's mine!"

Such is the dialogue I imagine the writers of "Glee" would pen to describe a slight kerfuffle between its own creators and Jonathan Coulton.

Coulton enjoys a bit of fame on YouTube. He writes tunes like "Code Monkey." He created the themes of Portal video games.… Read more

Watch: Jonathan Coulton, nerd-folk rock star

Valve Software's 2007 video game Portal was an instant classic that immediately won fans over with its unique, physics-based challenges, innovative portal gun, and sharp comedy. But beyond the dark humor and diabolical puzzles was a hidden gem for players able to make it to the end: a witty and humorous song called "Still Alive."

Singer-songwriter Jonathan Coulton was the man behind the infectiously catchy Easter egg song. But in an interview with CBS News, JoCo -- as he's known to fans -- showed why he's more than a one-hit wonder. … Read more

The 404 895: Where we meet a schmuck in a suit (podcast)

Sir Jon of Strick-land is a longtime listener of the podcast, but we never knew he was fluent in Elizabethan English until today's episode--by my troth, this should be good.

Jon tells us about his adventures in cosplay at local Renaissance Faires back home in Georgia, and also gives us a preview of his costume at this year's DragonCon--a Renaissance-themed Lex Luthor!

We'll also hear a voice mail from a listener in Berkeley spearheading a movement to proliferate a sarcasm font called Sartalics--along the same lines as the SarcMark, but way cooler.

The 404 Digest for Episode 895

Follow Jon Strickland on Twitter. Woman gets duped by thieves, buys wooden "iPad." Listener "California from Maya" Photoshops the first Domino's Pizza on the moon. Convey sarcasm online using Sartalics. Survival tips for DragonCon, a gathering of sci-fi and fantasy fans.

The 404 436: Where we're different by choice

We're very proud and excited to welcome Beck's Beer back as our official show sponsor for the month of October, as you can see by the advertisement over yonder. You know what that means, right? All month long we'll be bringing back the Semi-Weekly Audio Draft Pick, sponsored by Beck's Beer in conjunction with Last.fm. That's a lot to say, so if you can think of a better title for the segment (maybe even a funny acronym involving beer), shoot us a line at the404(at)cnet[dot]com. Just like in July, we'll be introducing you to some of our favorite musicians and playing their music on the show every Tuesday and Friday for the next month, so be excited, and if you have any suggestions, well, tweet us.

OMGWTFBBQ! The Robsham Theater Arts Center from Boston College is putting on a musical comedy inspired by songs by our buddy Jonathan Coulton! If you didn't hear his live performance the last time he was on The 404, go check it out and get ready for some musical theater. Luke Jorgenson, the associate theater professor at BC, was "taken by Coulton's satire of office life and technology," which inspired him to produce the script. We're very psyched for Jonathan. Congrats, buddy!

Next up in the news, we've got a few iffy Sony PS3 ads to show you guys. The first one is a picture of a stereotypical gamer giving a blood transfusion to someone that looks a lot like Erwin Rommel, aka "The Desert Fox" and a German General in World War II. The other one features the same gamer, but this time he's giving his heart to Joan of Arc. Like, literally giving his heart in a celebratory transplant. Yikes, Sony--what message are you guys trying to convey here?

Next, we play a brief PSA video to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a subject that is very dear to our hearts. The video is played in jest, and of course we have to make a few jokes about the steamy subject matter, but Breast Cancer itself is very real, so all month we'll be supporting the cause.

Have an awesome Thursday, everyone!

Buzz Out Loud 972: New Zune in June?

According to the Office 10 Twitter account, Zune lovers will be happy in June. If that wasn't weird enough, they also warn you not to buy an iPhone or Palm Pre, which is probably standing orders at Microsoft. Also Natali carries knives in her sports bra quite often. Or so we have come to understand.

The 404 312: Where Jonathan Coulton nude pics Obama iPhone

Internet superstar, singer, and songwriter Jonathan Coulton graces us with his presence on today's epic show. He instantly makes us a classy podcast when he plays a couple of tracks off of his new DVD concert album Best. Concert. Ever.

We thought it would be funny to have a SEO-friendly title today (SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.) but we may have gone a little overboard. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and a couple of other choice words that we're legally not able to write here at CNET weren't in the show title, so we can all be thankful for that.

More importantly, Jonathan Coulton plays his hit songs "Code Monkey" and "Re: Brains" live during the show--a first for The 404--which was actually very special for us. We talk a bit about what it's like quitting your day job at a technology company to go write funny songs for a living. With the recession giving everyone just a little bit more free time, Jonathan encourages us to take chances and write a song about IKEA bookshelves.

Also, Mr. Coulton promotes his upcoming concert album "Best. Concert. Ever." We promise that it's going to knock your socks off. You can buy it directly from him.

If you have any questions or comments, call 1-866-404-CNET (2638). Send us an email the404 [at] cnet [dot] com. Let us know what you think of today's show. Or if you're just lonely at night and need someone to talk to, leave a message, and we'll make fun of you the very next morning.

EPISODE 41

Friday, the end of the work week, the denouement, if you will, which means it's the perfect time to get Hepatitis A! Or at least that's what happened to some A-list celebrities at Ashton Kutcher's birthday party. D'oh! Also, Portal 2 might be in the works (we hope) and Jonathan Coulton's "Still Alive" will be included in a Rock Band downloadable content pack.
