Insignia NS-HD01: HD Radio to go

HD Radio sounds better than satellite, Internet, or analog AM and FM radio. Have you heard it yet? Chances are a few of your local AM or FM stations broadcast HD Radio signals, but they probably don't mention that fact on the air. To find out if your local stations are HD, check with iBiquity Digital, the company that licenses the technology. HD Radio--unlike digital satellite radio--has no subscription fee.

The Insignia NS-HD01 ($50) portable HD Radio's sound quality is a big step up from most mini radios, and it's the least expensive way to listen to … Read more

Report from the digital den

Talk about the ultimate man cave. I dropped in at the CNET testing headquarters in New York City and visited with two of the smartest guys in the TV/video space, David Katzmaier and John Falcone. I rely on these guys to keep me up to date on all the latest and greatest in TV-viewing technology.

Their man cave was more of a man cavern! It consisted of eight 50-plus-inch Internet-connected HDTVs loaded with all kinds of shows, applications, and add-on devices. It's their job to review and test the newest products in the digital home space. From TV … Read more

NYT's Pogue takes a lesson from CNET

As I'm commuting home yesterday afternoon, I fire up the old iPhone and decide to watch some video podcasts. After a little Geek Brief TV and Buzz Report, it's time for David Pogue. As host of my own vlog, The Queue, I often wonder if fellow vloggers ever watch my show. I wonder if Pogue, on his way into work, takes out his iPhone and checks out The Queue, or Top 5. I wonder if Kevin Pereira, at his G4 desk, quietly watches CNET Live.

Well, you can imagine my surprise, when exactly 52 seconds into Pogue's … Read more

I'm Craving John Falcone's Cool New Hat

So, maybe a few of you are ticked off at Gizmodo for that whole iPhone prank. But in my esteemed opinion, they've righted themselves, because they gave CNET senior editor and fellow Craver John Falcone a cool hat and a totally butt-kicking nickname. He's not just John Falcone anymore, he's John "Wayne" Falcone, the "Sheriff-Geek" of CNET! He can brandish five universal remotes at a time and look darned good doing it. Trust me, you don't want to be running into this guy in a dark alley late at night.
