Good news for all you Nikon D800 owners who have a third-generation iPad or are about to buy an iPhone 5: the new iPhoto 1.1 iOS app now can handle your 36.3-megapixel images.

iPhoto 1.0 for iOS, or version 1.1 on earlier iPhones and iPods, could handle only 19-megapixel images, which ruled out its use on photos from higher-end cameras such as Canon's 5D Mark II and Mark III and Sony's NEX-7.

Apple releases iDVD 7.1.1 and MacBook Air Updates

Apple has released a couple of updates today, for iDVD and for the MacBook Air. The update to iDVD brings the version to 7.1.1 and fixes problems users have had with sending iPhoto '11 slideshows to iDVD. It also fixes some stability bugs in the program. The software update for the MacBook Air (late 2010 model) addresses a problem in which the systems would not go to sleep.

Fix for e-mailing from iPhoto '11 using Microsoft Outlook 2011

When Apple released the iPhoto '11 version 9.1.1 update, one of the included features was to allow Microsoft Outlook users to send photos via e-mail through that program. Apple has in the past supported the use of Entourage, but the new Outlook e-mail client has a few different protocols and features and needed specific support. Unfortunately even though iPhoto is supposed to send e-mails through Outlook, a number of people are finding the feature broken.

Apple has released an update for iPhoto, which addresses a number of stability issues and problems with photo and library management. In addition it offers new e-mail-related options including mailing with alternative e-mail clients, more resizing options when e-mailing photos, and new "Classic" and "Journal" themes for e-mails.
