iWitness app claims to be 'ultimate deterrent to crime'

As the saying goes, there's an app for that, and now there's one that claims it can deter crime.

The app, iWitness, is free to download for iPhone users (it's coming to Android soon), but requires a subscription to use. Basically, it works like this:

Onkyo's new iPhone app brings multiroom control

Onkyo has released a revamped iPod Touch/iPhone app that enables users to wirelessly control music and components in a multiroom setup.

The "Onkyo Remote 2" will control 2010/2011 network receivers, plus the TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver, and enables control of Internet radio, full access to digital music libraries, and commonly used functions.

The remote will control connected components compatible with Onkyo's RI (remote interactive) system.

The app features an updated look and controls including play, stop, skip, and pause; volume, bass, and treble adjustments; listening mode and input source selection; network source selection; and radio stations.

The app is available for free from the Apple iTunes store, but Onkyo has yet to reveal details of iPad-specific control, or of an update to the Android Remote released in July that was based on version 1.… Read more

Last week's top iPhone and iPad apps, according to official numbers from Apple's App Store, include SPY Mouse, Angry Birds, Words With Friends, Pages, and Keynote, among others.

Apple has been releasing official top-10 lists for songs and albums for some time, but now users can check out the charts for iPhone and iPad apps as well. The categories Apple will be reporting include Top Paid iPhone Apps, Top Free iPhone Apps, Top Paid iPad Apps, and Top Free iPad Apps.

Apple's App Store sees sales surge, report says

Consumers are downloading more apps--and spending more for each one--for their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

That's the conclusion of Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. CNN Money, citing Munster's report, said that iOS device owners will download 83 applications this year, compared with 51 a year ago, a 61 percent increase. More importantly for Apple and the app developer, consumers will spend on average $1.44 per application, a 14 percent increase from a year ago.
