Kid builds iPad stand for $12.40

Take note all you DIYers and parents with creative kids. If you don't want to shell out $40 for a high-tech iPad stand, you can make your own--or have your kid make one.

With the help of his father, my 10-year-old nephew Brett went to Home Depot, got a piece of wood, a hinge, and a couple of knobs, and presto, instant iPad stand. I'm not sure Brett's going to win any design awards, but the thing does look pretty sturdy and only cost $12.40 plus tax. That may not be as cheap as Case-mate's … Read more

The iPad's screen: To protect it or not?

Before the launch of the iPad, Apple removed all the plastic and film screen protectors from its online and brick and mortar stores, even though they are among the most popular accessories for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Apple didn't seem to give any particular reason for this move, but as iLounge noted in an article, "One vendor speculated that the ban is an Apple marketing attempt to suggest screen durability, despite scratches that have damaged both plastic and glass displays of its products for years." Others have mentioned that because it's hard to adhere the … Read more

Suction feet for your iPad

On its Web site, BlueLounge has a quote from Albert Einstein that says, "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but simpler." Well, when it comes to accessories, the company's Cool Feet ($12.95) product, which was initially designed to raise a laptop just enough to "allow a constant cooling airflow," is about as simple as you can get, and now the company is marketing it toward iPad owners.

We're not sure how much sense this makes for an iPad, but we can see how the feet, which have integrated suction cups for … Read more

New iPad orders won't ship until April 12

Preorders of Apple's iPad seem to be going very well. The company updated its Web site on Saturday indicating that any new iPad orders will ship by April 12, as pointed out by AppleInsider and other blogs.

Apple is due to ship the iPad Wi-Fi model next Saturday--for those that have already placed their orders, the delivery date remains April 3. Preorder customers had a choice of in-store pickup or delivery, an option that also appears to have been removed from the Apple Store.

The iPad Wi-Fi + 3G is still scheduled to ship in late April, according to Apple'… Read more

Apple delays shipment of some iPad accessories

When Apple unveiled the iPad in January, it also introduced several accessories for the device, but not all of them will be available when the iPad ships April 3.

Apple has five accessories for the iPad: a keyboard dock, case, dock, 10W USB power adapter, and dock connector to VGA adapter.

The ship date for the iPad keyboard dock, a device that combines a dock for charging your iPad with a full-size keyboard, has been pushed back to May, according to a story on Electronista. The 10W USB power adapter, which lets you charge your iPad directly through an electrical … Read more

iPad accessory roundup: Tons already out there

Everybody has an opinion about the Apple iPad. For better or worse, it's one of those viral products that just seem to get under your skin. People in my life who would normally never talk to me about tech are coming out of the woodwork to ping me for an opinion on the iPad, unsure if they should bite.

But in spite of all the fence-sitters out there wondering which way the wind will blow, there is one group of people who share nothing but undiluted joy at the prospect of the iPad. I'm talking, of course, about … Read more

Presto! Belkin's Netbook sleeves are now iPad sleeves

Not surprisingly, now that the iPad has officially launched, we're starting to see a steady stream of upcoming iPad accessories. Some of the early ones weren't designed specifically for the iPad but they're being artfully repurposed for Apple's new tablet.

The folks at Ten One Design are quick to note that their two Pogo Stylus products will work with the iPad. And Belkin's taken its line of Netbook sleeves and magically retrofitted them for the iPad (the Belkin sleeves fit Netbooks with screen sizes up to 10.2 inches).

The three sleeves are called Vue ($… Read more
