The beverage pitcher that works for you

Not all kitchen gadgets are gleaming devices shimmering with moving parts. Sometimes, utility is provided by something just sitting there minding its own business. Take tea, for example: not much goes on while it steeps. Another example might be ice chilling down a beverage. Finally in a trifecta of passivity, infusions require little more than placing a bunch of sliced fruits, herbs, and whatnot into a liquid. Considering the simplicity involved, it only makes sense that there would be one kitchen helper designed to do all three of these tasks.

Buzz Out Loud 1465: I left TiVo because TiVo left me (Podcast)

Comcast and TiVo's long-running negotiations (think five years, people) to bring TiVo software to Comcast's set-top boxes is now officially dead. As are TiVo's hopes, as far as we're concerned. Also, CNET may have tipped off Sony to yet another planned attack this weekend, and good news! They stopped it! Bad news: PSN and Qriocity may not be fully operational until May 31. Also, a civil war seems to be brewing over at Anonymous, and you can't pay attention because you have too much brain. --Molly

AT&T to allow third-party apps

The Samsung Infuse 4G is a remarkable smartphone, but not for the reasons you might be thinking. Yes, the massive 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus touch screen, thin 8.9mm design, and 1.2GHz processor are impressive, but none of these features has Android fanboys buzzing with excitement. Rather, the hot topic today is that the Infuse 4G is the first Android phone from AT&T to allow app installation from outside of the Android Market.

Long a thorn in the side of Android enthusiasts, AT&T has restricted the ability to load apps from any source outside … Read more

Samsung Infuse 4G finally gets release date, pricing

NEW YORK--We haven't heard a peep about the Samsung Infuse 4G since it was first introduced at CES 2011, and frankly, we were beginning to wonder if the Android smartphone would ever see the light of day, but it looks like its day has finally come.

At a special event in New York today, AT&T and Samsung announced that the Infuse 4G would be available starting May 15 for $199.99 with a two-year contract (no mail-in rebates).

Unlike the petite HP Veer 4G, which is also launching on that day, the Infuse sits on the opposite … Read more

Android in 2011: Bigger, faster, thinner, lighter

After taking a few days to decompress and wrap my head around the Android news from CES 2011, I started to notice a couple of trends with the new devices. Not only are these phones getting substantially faster with bigger screens, but they are growing thinner and lighter at the same time.

As expected, the next Android phones are going to be much faster than today's handsets. We have dual-core smartphones like LG's Optimus 2X and the Motorola Atrix 4G on the horizon, and companies such as Samsung are pushing out single-core processor handsets with impressive 1.2GHz speeds.

And when you factor in 1GB memory capacities, you have two ingredients for 2011's "superphone." Well, at least for the first half of the year. At the rate things are moving, it's pretty difficult to forecast beyond six months.

Displays With screen size, big is in. What started with HTC's Evo 4G continues this year in force. In fact, it appears that the minimum display size for touch-screen phones now hovers around 4 inches or higher. Not only does a quick look show that some of the key handsets announced at CES have screens of 4.3 inches or larger, but Samsung's Infuse 4G is headed for AT&T with a 4.5-inch screen. Anything larger and we'll be into Dell Streak and tablet territory.

It's really funny considering that last summer, plenty of people balked at the Evo because it was considered too big. Was the success of the Sprint phone a driving factor in the new designs, or are handset makers simply moving the needle whether we like it or not? … Read more

CES: One shot of the Samsung Infuse 4G

LAS VEGAS--Though Samsung has officially unveiled the Infuse 4G for AT&T, the company is remaining very tight-lipped as to what the device will offer. We don't know much beyond what we told you already, and Sammy isn't responding to our appeals for more details.

Believe us when we say that's all very frustrating at the gadget extravaganza that is CES, particularly when the product has been announced. We didn't even get to hold the Infuse 4G in our hands when we saw it tonight and Samsung would only show us one side. All we … Read more

AT&T reveals 4G handsets, LTE launch plans

LAS VEGAS--AT&T announced at its Developer's Summit at CES this morning that it will launch its 4G LTE network by the middle of this year. Details of initial markets, pricing, and exact rollout plans are still few at this point, but the carrier says the network will be complete by 2013.

The news, which comes in the middle of a flurry of 4G announcements here, finally puts AT&T on the road to a high-speed data network. Though rivals like Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and MetroPCS have operated commercially available 4G networks for several months, AT&… Read more

CES: AT&T goes big with Samsung Infuse 4G

LAS VEGAS--AT&T introduced the latest addition to its Android family today, the Samsung Infuse 4G.

The Infuse 4G will be one of the first smartphones in the U.S. to rock Samsung's next-generation Super AMOLED Plus touch screen, which claims 50 percent more subpixels for better contrast and outdoor visibility. If that weren't enough, the screen measures 4.5 inches diagonally, making it one of the largest displays on a smartphone today.

Aside from the new display technology, the Infuse 4G will run Android 2.2 and feature a 1.2GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera with … Read more

Valentine tea for two

Tea infusers tend to be pretty standard: a metallic mesh container that you can fill with tea leaves and drop into a pot of hot water. You let the leaves steep for a while and soon you have fresh tea. The Big Heart Tea Infuser is identical in use to other infusers, but its shape makes it stand out. This infuser is heart-shaped and is a little bigger than normal. It measures two inches across, offering more than enough space to make tea for two. If your sweetheart likes drinking tea, the Big Heart Tea Infuser may be a thoughtful … Read more
